NYC Supports the Troops, the U.S.A. and President Bush - 3/23/03

Posted on 03/23/2003 12:56:52 PM PST by NYC GOP Chick

We got to Times Square shortly before noon, and there were well over 1000 patriotic people there! We started out up front, but my dad was uncomfortable and we kept going back and back and back and back... Therefore the only speaker photos I have are of the lady from the Christian Coalition and a couple of FReepers.

By the time we left, there were at *least* close to 3000 flag-waving, "USA! USA! USA!"-chanting patriots squeezed into the area near the ticker tape in Times Square.

I didn't see any other threads on this, so I apologize if this is a duplicate.

I am still beside myself from that experience this afternoon. Everytime I see one of those hate America rallies and want to put my foot through the tube I'm gonna remember what we did today!!

I know those feelings! On Saturday afternoon, I had to go to Penn Station and while I was there, I saw so many of those anti-American freaks. Most of them seemed to be either slack-jawed kids or addled old people. There was one with a particularly vulgar and egregrious sign who sorely tempted me to drag him by his green mohawk down to the WTC site and rub his face in the dirt and dust there.

I was thorougly appalled when I saw some of them literally verbally abusing the National Guardsmen who are there to protect us! One menopausal hag was wagging her finger in one guy's face and screeching, and then two dopey kids went up to them and taunted them with crap like "If you're so big and tough, why aren't you in Iraq?" Grrr! I then went up to the Guardsmen and thanked them for all they do. I also told them not to pay any attention to these fools, as they don't live in NYC and don't understand what those of us who do live in the city know can happen.

Interestingly, a lot of the spoiled brat kids were on the train that I was taking out to Lawnguyland. You would think that having come in to the city to protest, they'd be all militant and fired up on the train home, but no. They were laughing, partying, gabbing on their cell phones, bopping around with their MP3 players, etc. It's like they were here just to be able to say that they were here.

It made me think of another LIRR ride I took -- on the night of September 11, 2001, something these sub-cretins will never understand.

Actually, I've had it for a while now. I used to have "The LMDC can go to hell," but then they *finally* sent me the money they owe me and I had to think of something else. :D

I got GOOSEBUMPS looking at the rally pics, and reading the personal accounts. Can't wait to make it to NYC! We've had rallies every weekend in CT, with OK news coverage. we are starting to get more cov'g than the anti's. Can I use helium balloons to hoist up a sign or flag in NYC? ALtho I'll look like a dope on the train with a bunch of balloons, but it will help keep people away from me. Laserlock drove from NJ to our CT rally on 3/22- he is a real trooper.

I'm sure you have already bought the papers, but if not, make sure you buy the Post, Daily News and even the liberal rag, the New York Times...All have articles and pics about the NYC and Staten Island Rallys.

the day before 1,000 pro-war supporters filled NYC, may I remind you he 200,000 anti-war marchers shut it down. That is 200 times, in one city. hundreds of millions marched all over the world on the 22nd. 1,000 to 200,000. We win.

I'll have to get those pics from my friend. I'd like to look at them again.

IRC He was ~6ft tall, brown hair(think what French think as fashionable...you know the disheveled artist look), dark(maybe black) pullover, thin. He started by pushing his way in behind me and two other patriots on the curb area where we were situated, approximately 18-22ft from the speakers at 10 minutes after 12pm. I thought I was gonna get the reach around from this guy he got so close, but close enough for the firm heel-on-arch two step; there were so many supporters that the 6 inch rule was apparently out the window). He then made his way over to the barrier area towards the middle of the street after being reminded to cool it quietly. I'll see if any of the existing pictures capture him in the meantime.

Those chants were absolutely rocking! The whole street was reverberating from where I was standing!

USA! USA! USA!

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!

You know I haven't seen a bit of tv or print coverage yet. I'll have to get moving.

You know, it's pretty amazing how each of the papers equates the success of the event with the volume of protesters at the Anti-War rallys. Each article--especially the Times--goes out of their way to indicate that we only had a small number comparatively.

The Daily News shot of Blanca DeLeon is great (also a great shot and article in the Westchester Journal News) text of article here: http://www.thejournalnews.com/newsroom/032403/a01p24warrally.html. We met at Grand Central and I walked over to the rally with her, her sister and her daughter. She couldn't stop talking about how proud she was of her son Jonah a Marine. Really touching stuff...
