NYC Supports the Troops, the U.S.A. and President Bush - 3/23/03
Posted on 03/23/2003 12:56:52 PM PST by NYC GOP Chick
We got to Times Square shortly before noon, and there were well over 1000 patriotic people there! We started out up front, but my dad was uncomfortable and we kept going back and back and back and back... Therefore the only speaker photos I have are of the lady from the Christian Coalition and a couple of FReepers.
By the time we left, there were at *least* close to 3000 flag-waving, "USA! USA! USA!"-chanting patriots squeezed into the area near the ticker tape in Times Square.
I didn't see any other threads on this, so I apologize if this is a duplicate.

You guys did me proud! I couldn't attend due to a situation at home but I had every intention of going and bringing my kids. Hubby was a bit standoff ish about the little ones going but we saw the coverage on tv afterwards and I told him it was only the OTHER demonstration that had the violence and he agreed. I am unsure if this was a FReeper or not but some biker gentlemen got a hold of someone on the regular Fox station and said, "we can only be out here on Sundays because we all have jobs unlike the unemployed degenerates that are out here everyday." LOL!!! great job guys!

Oh, Katnip.....I forgot to mention that ABC news here in NYC had a real good, long shot of you on their broadcast at 6PM tonight. If you didn't see it, be sure and watch it at 11PM tonight!
I will be sure to watch for this! I just saw the 10pm footage again on Fox. Weere any of the good people interviewed by them FReepers?

I planned to go, but my flu took a turn for the worse this morning- so I stayed in bed.
Way to go, guys!

Just saw the coverage on UPN, "thousands" rallied for the troops. Great pictures and great coverage from FOX as well. We will do better. Time to start organizing the next one. PIX eleven news, over a thousand, positve coverage all over so far.
I normally don't watch television, I am making an ecception tonight.

How wonderful! I heard all of you LOUD AND CLEAR on WCBS radio today shouting: USA! USA! USA! And it really DID sound like 1,000 people! But it should have sounded like 3000! :D

Actually, you may not have heard him since you were down at the other end of the block, but there was a Vietnam Vet there who spoke for a few minutes and he said that rallies supporting the troops like this mean SO MUCH to the troops while they are in battle. They do get wind of it, and he said it keeps them going! No, we didn't hear that! But we are heartened to know that the troops *will* hear about this and know that we love 'em!

I found WPIX (that is channel 11 right?) ....well channel 11 gave today's rally the most attention and amount of time of all the coverage I saw. I didn't catch channel 9, UPN though. WPIX was very positive though and mentioned that the ONLY arrest was of a passerby, not one of the rally attendees. They also said it was a huge CONTRAST to yesterday's rally.

And thanks for the pictures, NYC GOP Chick... I pulled out my camera when we got there and found my batteries had died. Thanks to you I have a full set anyways :-) My batteries crapped out pretty early too -- but I had a spare set with me. Anyway, that's a 1 megapixel camera and tomorrow I'm going to get a 3.2 one, which should really improve picture quality for the next rally. :D

My father asked if I were sure it was our pro-troops rally... I told him just look for an ocean of flags :-)That's just how it played out between my dad and me!

I'm sorry to hear you are under the weather. It was such a beautiful day. I was looking for you too. Since I have only been to one other Freep before today I was looking around for faces I knew. I wondered where you were. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi everyone.
I thought the rally for the troops and our President was fantastic!!
I enjoyed being shoulder to shoulder with my fellow Americans.
Looking forwards to seeing everyone again at the next rally.

Please do let me know. Now I know it's a kid friendly atmosphere (so unlike the pevious day's events) so i won't have to worry about looking for a sitter.

I am still beside myself from that experience this afternoon. Everytime I see one of those hate America rallies and want to put my foot through the tube I'm gonna remember what we did today!!
