Muslim-American soldier detained in Kuwait attack 16 troops injured in grenade assault described by Pentagon as 'inside job'A U.S. soldier being described as a Muslim is now in custody for alleged complicity in the grenade and small-arms attack on members of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division encamped in Northern Kuwait, which injured 16 soldiers, 11 seriously.
In addition, two Kuwaitis who had served a translators are being held for questioning, according to CBS News correspondent Mark Strassmann, who is imbedded with the 101st.
Strassmann reported that the grenades were rolled into two commanders' tents. When officers ran from their tents, they were hit by small arms fire, he said.
George Heath, 101st spokesman at home base Fort Campbell, said: "From our reports it appears that a terrorist penetrated Camp Pennsylvania, one or more terrorists threw two hand grenades into a tent."
Calling it a criminal matter and an "inside job," the Pentagon says the U.S. soldier had been missing on base. The soldier implicated was reportedly in charge of grenades, according to MSNBC.
None of the injuries are being called life threatening, and some of the casualties have been air-lifted out of the camp.
Strassmann also reported that an Iraqi rocket fired at U.S. forces in Kuwait was downed by Patriot missiles launched from nearby Camp New Jersey.
Time reporter Jim Lacey told ABC News that he talked to an eyewitness at the rear base camp who said that grenades were rolled into a tents that housed the leaders of the brigadier unit. A terrorist, the witness told Lacey, shot the first two people who exited the tent. Sky News reports that a third grendade was rolled into a third tent housing officers, but that it did not explode.
Camp Pennsylvania was named to honor of the victims of plane that crashed in Pennsylvania during the Sept. 11 attacks. The camp, located approximately 20-30 miles south of the Iraqi border, is surrounded by large berms and guarded by armed soldiers, with others in observation posts watching the desert. The camp is also home to Patriot missile batteries.
The U.S. soldier is currently being questioned, and U.S. authorities are tight-lipped about characterizing his possible involvement.
Stuart Ramsay, a reporter with Sky News, says the Muslim soldier had become a concern to his commanding officers.
"In recent days they were concerned about his behavior and were not going to send him up to the front when the soldiers were going to be deployed," Ramsay said.
It is not clear whether the soldier, who Ramsay said would have been in the Gulf for some weeks, had planned the attack before being deployed.
"Talking to other soldiers, it could be that he was disgruntled," Ramsay said. "They said he had been acting 'weird' for days."

Jim Lacey from Time also said this 'soldier' probably didn't even know anyone in the tents because he was an Engineer......entirely different chain of command.
That rules out the anger theory.

I despise the extreme interpretations of Islam that lead to violence against all non-Muslims. However, not al Muslims are extremists.
We all need to be careful that we do not let our hatred for extremists and extremism spill over to all Muslims. I am totally opposed to Islam and believe it to be a dangerous religion, but I am not sure we should let our emotions run away with our reason.
I am firmly behind our war with Iraq, but as a Christian I have to struggle with God's commandments to love all people. We should be fighting extreme Islam with weapons, but we should be fighting the religion of Islam with the truth of the Gospel of Christ.
Don't bother accusing me of being soft on Islam. I am simply struggling with being a Christian, who is called to love my enemies, and being an American patriot who wants to destroy my enemies.

I'm just reporting what the TIME reporter...Lacy I believe...said. Even FOX refuses to name him as black but the pictures don't lie. I only mention that because I want to know is he a real muslim or a NOI nutcase and what are those loonies doing in the 101st.
Were this perp some white boy with a copy of the Turner Diaries in his rucksack....we would be hearing about it to no end...hell, they'd have his toothless kinfolks all over the screen by now.
I was suprised he went that far. No one but FOX has dared touched this and the military has been very closed lipped.
We think he was misguided....he and a majority of mulsims would think not...I agree.
PC policy can be lethal....9-11 proved that but still we continue.

Agreed. But there aren't tons - there aren't any - disloyal non-Muslims tossing grenades into their commander's tent, or shooting at random strangers all around the DC beltway, or pulling out guns at El Al ticket counters, or lighting explosives in their shoes on airliners, or issuing edicts to acquire mass destruction, and to kill Americans whenever possible. All A are not B. But all B are A. Wake up. There is an ideology at war with us, and it has adherents.

Agreed.
I am guessing that in some units, there may be unexpected casualties of those "with arab-sounding last names who are acting weird the last few days and are going to be pulled before we go too much further." (roughly the description I heard of this muslim today.) I think if I was a known muslim I would at least temporarily convert back to a real religion to keep from being "fragged" by other members of my team.

Were there any religion of peace guys on the helicopter that went down the other night or any muslims who worked on that helicopter? Just asking. I tought of it too, if that's a case there is more US casualties so far caused by ISLAMISTS in our armed forces than by 100000 Iraqi army.
To: floriduh voter; All
There was a muslim on the helicopter that went down. He got his 72 virgins. I wonder how that investigation is going. We'll never know.

four words: DRUM HEAD COURT MARTIAL
another ten words: MOST EXTREME FORM OF DISHONORABLE DISCHARGE PERMITTED UNDER THE UCMJ (meaning: before a full assembly of his former unit, publicly strip this sorry POS of all rank insignia, unit patches, etc... and strike his name from the ranks)
another three words: PUBLICLY HANG HIM
THEN BURY HIM FACE DOWN WRAPPED IN A FRESH PIG CARCASS UNDER A TOMBSTOME READING "TRAITOR"
