Black Muslim US soldier is a suspect! ("10 U.S. Soldiers Hurt In Grenade Attack")

(CBS) Ten U.S. soldiers were injured, six or seven of them seriously, in a grenade and small arms attack at Camp Pennsylvania in northern Kuwait, reports CBS News Correspondent Mark Strassmann, who is traveling with the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division.

Strassmann said the grenades were rolled into two commanders' tents at the camp. When officers ran from the tents, they were hit by small arms fire.

"From our reports it appears that a terrorist penetrated Camp Pennsylvania, one or more terrorists threw two hand grenades into a tent," said George Heath, spokesman at Fort Campbell, home base of the 101st.

Strassman said three suspects were being held for questioning, two Kuwaitis who served a translators and an American soldier described as a black Muslim.

The injured soldiers were rushed to a field hospital but military officials had no word on their conditions, Lt. Cmdr. Charles Owens said from Camp As Sayliyah in Qatar.

The military did not identify the unit of the 101st that was in the camp but said it had been in Kuwait for about one week. Most of the division has entered southern Iraq.

Separately, Strassmann reported, an Iraqi rocket fired at U.S. forces in Kuwait was destroyed by Patriot missiles launched from nearby Camp New Jersey.

The terror and missile attack came as the U.S. assault on Iraq gained steam. American and British forces besieged the southern city of Basra and pounded Baghdad with impunity. But tough fighting loomed for coalition troops as they pressed deeper into Iraq.

I was thinking the same thing. At the time, there was speculation about infiltration of the armed services. I hope this was an isolated case. I don't thing our men and women in harm's way need to be watching their backs among their own ranks.

I can't identify the guy. I was surfing channels at the time, and heard this. It was Fox News and Rita Cosby was the anchor. I've seen the guy before and I suspect that he was one of the many "retired generals" that the cable networks have hired.

Gotta disagree with you there, chief. This guy (if guilty) needs to be shot, and I'll gladly donate the bullet. But I think his "Muslim-ness" is only a symptom of the real problem:

I don't think the "Black Muslims" are really Muslims. I think their motivation is the following:

- they HATE whites to such an extent that they'd fall on their swords before accpeting a "white" religion

- they're LEFTISTS, SOCIALISTS, COMMUNISTS, and ANARCHISTS, and they're USING Islam to protect and camouflage their views. The essense of Communism is its insidiousness, its ability to look like something else. If anything we should feel sorry for the millions of peaceful Muslims who have had their religion HIJACKED. I'm a Christian, raised Catholic, but that doesn't mean I support what Hitler did to Christianity when he was in power--he hijecked it and twisted it to his ends. It is characteristic of evil men.

16 now injured. Not life-threatning. Rather, for some strange reason, does not identify the soldier as a Muslim.

I will try to investigate why he ommitted this fact.

BUT....CBS has already pulled their original report labeling the soldier as "black muslim".

Good catch. Just one more reason FR is so cool, and one more reason why copying article text as it exists on a web site at the time of the post is SOOOO important (one more addition to the "fair use" argument).

Obviously someone "described" the suspect as a black Muslim to the reporter.

How many other times has an FR poster caught the PC press sanitizing its copy? Very, very many.

Depends on how they prosecute this -- if they just go with Attempted murder - then it is life in Leavenworth.

BUT since they are in a Combat Zone, Under the UCMJ this would qualify as treason (attempted murder of CO) -- and that is a execution offence in the military.

CNN coverage of the incident does not mention that he is a Muslim. They have had comparisons to Nam era "fragging", spun out there without the sligthest hint of the single most important fact in the case. MSNBC likewise does not mention it. They are tip-toeing around the subject, hinting other things are suspected or may be going on, but refusing to say anything - as though for reasons of security. Only Fox, as far as I have seen, has mentioned the unmentionable, that he is Muslim. No one has mentioned his race. And of course, almost all of them are saying it *isn't* a terrorist incident if a soldier did it - which does not remotely follow, of course.
