(CBS) Ten U.S. soldiers were injured, six or seven of them seriously, in a grenade and small arms attack at Camp Pennsylvania in northern Kuwait, reports CBS News Correspondent Mark Strassmann, who is traveling with the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division.
Strassmann said the grenades were rolled into two commanders' tents at the camp. When officers ran from the tents, they were hit by small arms fire.
"From our reports it appears that a terrorist penetrated Camp Pennsylvania, one or more terrorists threw two hand grenades into a tent," said George Heath, spokesman at Fort Campbell, home base of the 101st.
Strassman said three suspects were being held for questioning, two Kuwaitis who served a translators and an American soldier described as a black Muslim.
The injured soldiers were rushed to a field hospital but military officials had no word on their conditions, Lt. Cmdr. Charles Owens said from Camp As Sayliyah in Qatar.
The military did not identify the unit of the 101st that was in the camp but said it had been in Kuwait for about one week. Most of the division has entered southern Iraq.
Separately, Strassmann reported, an Iraqi rocket fired at U.S. forces in Kuwait was destroyed by Patriot missiles launched from nearby Camp New Jersey.
The terror and missile attack came as the U.S. assault on Iraq gained steam. American and British forces besieged the southern city of Basra and pounded Baghdad with impunity. But tough fighting loomed for coalition troops as they pressed deeper into Iraq.

The local CBS affiliate in Dallas showed a scene of him being lifted off of the ground in handcuffs.. the right side of his face was swollen so bad, he looked like the elephant man. Looks like someone got a piece of him.

I believe this Muslim/terrorism issue is similar: guilt by proximity.
That's why it's incumbant upon the associated to expunge themselves of the associated guilt. Just because I hang out with rapists don't make me a rapist, right?
You bring up the example of the South & the KKK. Certain North/Central States had as high and sometimes higher per capita KKK membership than Southern States, but they avoided the stigma of the association. That's because they actively ridded themselves of it and in general not only decried it but acted against it in mainstream act and thought. The South earned its reputation not through KKK activity but through Jim Crow. The one was a logical extension of the other, and they fed off each other. Same goes with the Muslim Americans. They are not standing up to the challenge. They hide behind tolerance. A more apt analogy might be the abused wife who defends her abuser.
What got me going today was a radio interview with some Muslim American group leader who stated flatly that "Muslim Americans" are opposed to this war. Oh, really? I guess all those hundred thousand Iraqi exiles in Detriot are Saddam agents and sympathizers?
That kind of crass dismissal of dissent within their own only leads to an ugly reputation from without. They're employing the same logic as the anti-war protestors who claim to be against the war but supportive of the troops. The President nailed them all with "You're either with us or against us." Ain't no half way with this one.

The question is, why did the military put up with this guy for so long? There are reports right now that they were having problems with him before today?

Most people I have known are decent deep down inside As I said elsewhere, how can you possibly trust someone whose belief system says it is just fine to deceive unbelievers? It is moral for them to lie. And, I'll believe Islam can coexist with the civilized world when I see Saudi Arabia allow its citizens basic rights and freedoms, including the freedom to leave the Muslim faith.

Thanks for the help. It is just too much of a coincedence that the guy had the same last name. This is going to be very bad for morale and for the rest of the Muslims in the service.

"Ummm...check again, "Middle Easter/Arab is in fact a race..."
Guess anthropology has changed since I was in school. Only four races:
Caucasion-white, arab, european, etc
Negroid-blacks
Mongoloid-Asian-Chinese, Korean, etc
Indian-Native Americans, NOT from India
