Women in the Military
myself
Posted on 03/22/2003 3:13:07 PM PST by MarcoPolo
I've got a serious question that I need some Freeper help with. I know that in World War II women were able to serve separately from men in the Armed Forces in such services as the WACS and the WAVES. Are there any such women's only corps in our services today? This is an honest question. I have wanted badly to serve my country, but I have almost always felt that women's roles in the military should not be a soldiers but as equally important nurses, intelligence officers, and other support staff. ANY FEMALE SOLDIERS OR VETS READING THIS PLEASE DON'T BE OFFENDED. I'm genuinely interested in knowing this stuff, so if any Freeper can help I'd be most appreciative.

I mentioned the Crusades because that was the only Christian army I could remember.

How good of you to decide who belongs where. I'll sleep better at night.

If you had any basis for your blathering, I'd deal with it.
Otherwise, life's too short.

Did you ever face your enemy? And if so, were you ever a POW?

Women should not serve directly in military operations. They are only usefull in "support" roles. Otherwise, they are just in the way of our brave men in uniform. I think most of the people fluttering on about our delicate wimmin would get their asses whipped by their frontier GGG Great Grandmothers. Those wimmin worked every bit as hard as the men and fought every bit as well against the Indian Raids all while raising a family. The whole nonsense about delicate wimmin is a fantasy of the high victorian period.
Any woman who is strong enough should serve wherever she wants. The services have done some terrible things downgrading the physical requirements for some positions to put wimmin in them, but as long as the old standards are retained, why not?
We have wimmin aerobatic pilots today who are just as agressive as any male pilot, pull higher Gs than any military pilot and are in fact better pilots than most fighter jocks. Why shouldn't they get a shot?
In the 60s when the NY Fire Dept was first hiring wimmin, Mayor Ed Koch said "I don't care what sex a fireman is as long as they are strong enough to carry a 200 pound Mayor down a ladder" Precisely the right sentiment.

It is sheer ignorance to pretend as if women are men. They are women. Iraqi soldiers would just love to get their hands on these lovelies.
How about we send your daughter into combat. We went through all this with the female helicopter pilot captured in Gulf War I.
After her release, she said "yes, she had been raped, so what? Didn't the press think the men were raoed too. After all these were Arabs."
It is just that the press is too delicate about our male heoroe to ask them if they got the Laurence of Arabia treatment.

Women don't belong in ground combat roles. I'm not going to make all the arguments because, well, I really don't care to convince anyone at this point in time.
But, I don't have a problem with females in certain limited support roles, and as pilots. If they get shot down and captured, well, it sucks to be a POW for men or women. But there's no reason a woman can't fly as well as a man.
The only limitation I'd have is that I'm a bit leery of women flying close support. One advantage the Corps has is that all our officers, including pilots, get a strong dose of infantry training that I think helps when its time to support the ground guys. But that certainly doesn't apply to the army or navy.

Maybe you'd change your tune when you hear what the Iraqis do to female POWs. Being PC is nice and lovey-dovey but when you are at war all that is thrown out the window. I have heard. I also know they do exactly the same to the men, but no one wants to talk about that in public.
If a woman can kick a man's ass and do his job better than he can, she deserves a shot at his spot in combat if she wants it.

I haven't yet learned a label for cultural paleos like me who have an imperialist-military power projection bent like me.
Don't anybody call me a paleo with reference to Pat. I differ sharply with him on that, trade, and especially Israel.

I don't see how men getting raped in times of war is a reason to let women be raped.
My premise is that there is NO NEED to put women in combat.
Appeasing short haired dykes in flannels is not a need.
Some wish to divert the issue to "women are capable" at this or that. That's a great discussion, but if we are talking about putting women in situations where they can be captured and abused, the other side loses.
The fact that they feel a need to divert or reframe the issue shows just how wrong they are.

Your ad hominem attacks on wimmin in the armed forces as short haired Dykes shows your real motive clearly. If you are kinda wussie in real life, strong wimmin are kinda threatening, aren't they?

Do you mind my asking why you use the lesbian-feminist spelling "wimmin" instead of the less politically-charged conventional spelling?

I'm 6'5" 220 lbs and have never seen a woman outside of these boxing gals on TV that I know I could crush quickly. Goody for you. Let's not take any infantry under 6'4" 200 lb. They obviously aren't up to it, are they? There is no need for normal sized people getting in the way. I mean if a 6 foot tall 175 pound woman isn't big enough to carry her share of the load, then the average 5' 10" 155 pound male obviously isn't big enough to play.
You are talking about size and attitude, yours and theirs, not capability.
