Women in the Military
myself

Posted on 03/22/2003 3:13:07 PM PST by MarcoPolo

I've got a serious question that I need some Freeper help with. I know that in World War II women were able to serve separately from men in the Armed Forces in such services as the WACS and the WAVES. Are there any such women's only corps in our services today? This is an honest question. I have wanted badly to serve my country, but I have almost always felt that women's roles in the military should not be a soldiers but as equally important nurses, intelligence officers, and other support staff. ANY FEMALE SOLDIERS OR VETS READING THIS PLEASE DON'T BE OFFENDED. I'm genuinely interested in knowing this stuff, so if any Freeper can help I'd be most appreciative.

Yep...I just saw a thread on that about him praising the surrendered general a sec ago.

I wonder how long till the networks get ahold of that.

I wonder if Al Jazeera will broadcast that discrepancy.

Yes, it has been; from Biblical times. Sampson & Delilah is a prime example.

Women have ALWAYS been pawns, in wars. During the Age of Chivalry, there were even special codes, on which females could be raped...rich ones shouldn't be, but some were...it just wasn't considered to be all that " chivalrous ".

Female spies were used during the Napoleonic wars. They've been used to conceal " secret " messages, forever.

Early morning historical discourse is so much more fun, than reading idiotic spewings, from little boys, who see women as body parts/sex toys and newbies, who are more PC/LIBERAL, than Conservative.

Al Jazeera is a propaganda medium, who WILL show anything they think can further the Islamofacist cause.

There were SO many things glaringly WRONG/LEFT OUT of Saddam's canned speech, that it deserves its own thread. :-)

New era, perhaps. Definitely new people and less politically correct people. My grandfather served in WW II and died in Korea as an Army surgeon; my father served in Korea as gunner on a B-29 and two tours in Vietnam as a Jolly Green Giant medic.

For local interest ask your wife. Braddock's Landing is at the end of Victoria Boulevard and Bridge Street in Hampton. Blackbeard's Point is just about three hundred yards east of there, just past the end of Columbia. A big magnolia now grows where his head was displayed. I can almost recite the proud history of VMI and walk blindfolded through every battlefield in the Old Dominion without stubbing a toe.

Been in war?? I have; I could care less what you think. I am just adding a bit of levity to the conversation. I you are such a punk a$$ in attitude towards enjoying a forum where folk can let loose a little steem, then it is you with the problem/ Young? You must be in character to be so uptight in the mind. I have no problem with women authority; you all clearly do if you are so offended by someone joking around. You ever see the belly of an RPG flying over your head??? I thought not. Go cook a pie.

DON'T FEEL TOO BAD ABOUT LOOSING YOUR COOKIES in flight school... I DID'T BUT MOST NEW PILOTS DO. I went throgh flight school in mid 1950's, no women.
They wanted people who had not flown before. I seems that it is harder to unlearn bad flying habits rather than teach some one to fly who has never flown.

Now take a minute and think about what would happen to those four "capable women" if they were shot down over Iraq.

The Crusades were a defense against those that were trying to conquer them and turn them into slaves. They had a right to defend themselves, same as were doing nowadays. Read up on it next time before opening your yapper.

What to call the social liberals/fiscal conservatives? "Neo-con" used to be an appropriate label, until the moniker acquired an (undeserved) tinge of anti-Semetic name calling.

May I say that I have found that the men who hold this outdated view are usually embarassed because they chose to stay home and this somehow threatens them and their fragile sense of masculinity.

I have found that many men who want women to fight for them are of the Clinton/ Ted Kennedy ilk who are gutless draft-dodgeing losers who want no sex roles because they know they couldn't "meet standards." And they hide behind the thought that they are enlightened.

I can only imagine: Let her swim up herself,I did. Ted's all about equal opportunity you know.

It is sheer ignorance to pretend as if women are men. They are women. Iraqi soldiers would just love to get their hands on these lovelies.
How about we send your daughter into combat.
I don't want to hear any griping either. And I expect lots of flag waving by you when her face is paraded across the screen with that look in her eye that makes you realize what a crappy father you would be for cheering her into this situation.

There's NO NEED to send females into combat. Without a need, it becomes nothing more than self-serving delusion to do so.

If you are so for sending women into combat, I suggest you open up a recruiting kiosk on your front lawn, and be sure to post plenty of images of what really happens to a female when caught by the likes of a drooling Iraqi.

It's all just fine and dandy, until they are captured by Arab Muslims, when they will be repeatedly gang raped and tortured and humiliated in the worst possible ways.

Is this what you want for your sister or daughter?

What is wrong with a country where millions of fit and able 180 pound college age boys are lounging around at home drinking beer and watching MTV, while 120 pound young ladies are going to war and are being captured, raped and tortured????

In some fairy tale war, there is a clean front line with the support troops safely behind it. In today's Iraq war, there is never going to be a safe rear area, and our women soldiers will always be vulberable to being captured, raped and tortured. It is wrong to send them into this environment while millions of 20 year old boys lie around at home getting drunk.

A nation which sees no problem with sending its future mothers to war to be captured, raped and tortured while millions of strong young men don't give a crap, is a nation on its way down.

By the way, the last time thinking like this was "right & proper" (well, it never really was) the word "women" was substituted with the word "Negro."

What an asinine statement. You see no difference at all between the sexes for close combat, trench warfare for example? You would be happy to send you daughter or sister to another Korean war for infantry combat? Really? What an evil fantasy land you must inhabit.
