.I am a former Marine of 5 years. I was with 3rd LAR 92-97 (the 1st unit bombed over there). In fact I know some from my unit that are in action right now. Here is my dilema and I do not know if you have or are experiencing the same.....Being in a combat unit instilled within me an urgency to see action like no other. I trained for 5 years to be a tool of war and never got to use that training. Trust me I'd be scared $#@!!less LOL. But since seeing this on the news I SO WANNA GO BACK in. So bad it is almost like I think about it all the time now, like a calling. I have a wife and kid now (6month old) and do not want to put them thru that....My wife knows how much I love the Marines so much so that today she called the recruiter to find out what it would take to get me back in because she knows I am unhappy. I know what this would do to my family and that I do not want as I would no longer have a wife....At least thats my feeling once she is in with me.....How can I keep my mind off of this? It is constantly in my head and I dont know what to do....

I understand, if I wasn't close to 50, I would want to defend my country and home.

When you said you needed help I thought you were going to tell us that you had 50 million dollars in a bank account in Nigeria and needed our help to get it out! :^)

Just Do It! Re-up. God bless you & your intelligent wife.

You have a big decision to make. I think that in the meantime, grab yourself a flag, a couple of buddies and go to some street corner and show your support for our military and our commander-in-chief. It is a very cathartic experience.

You'll grow out of it a little over time.
You have people here. Think of that.

I share your sentiments though I'm quite younger and don't have a wife and child. One thing I'm doing to ease my mind is by getting active in a couple vet programs. I found them on FR and you can see if they're ur thing. Click on my profile and they're listed.

I grew up as a navy brat...during the Vietnam war my dad was gone off and on for three years. My brothers and I had a great life growing up on some of the nices beaches in the United States. If your wife is supporting you...what is holding you back?

Move to Massachusetts and buy low rent income property in the inner city. You will see more action and violence than you ever would in the marines.
If you live and you are good and you are lucky, you might make some money too. Just don't ever go into a courtroom.
I'm not kidding as much as you think.

Go to compusa and buy Unreal Tournament. If it is the strategy that you liked, then buy Hearts of Iron.

I'm a retired FMF corpsman working on Homeland Security issues at the local level. If you want to get back on "active duty", without leaving your family, you are NEEDED by your local health department. Across the country, planners have been working on emergency bioterrorism response plans. To make them work, if the need arises, medical and non-medical volunteers are needed.
Call your local health department today and ask to be added to their volunteer database. You are needed.

I retire in '96 and I feel the same way. I feel very frustrated not being involved.

I am touched by your commitment and it is, of course, your call to make. My advice is that you stay with your wife and family. If the time is right you will know it without a doubt and so will your wife. This mission to liberate Iraq will hopefully be short.
It is great to know that you are there if we need you, but right now your family needs you.
Busy yourself with things you CAN do to support the troops or help with homeland security.

If you did five years and I stress if</>, you were discharged early for some reason.

Try to get involved helping and supporting the families of those who are in there. Get involved in sending them the things that by experience you know they will miss and need. Get involved in a prayer group commited to pray for their safety. Get involved in promoting a consumer boycott of French companies. Most of all participate in groups who coive their support for the president and our military since this may prove to be helpful not only forthem but for you too.
I will be praying for you. There are so many ways a good man can be of service for his country and supportive of those who are on the frontlines. Believe me is a matter to look around.
