Over the last several days we have been seeking to compile a list of troops for whom we may pray. Now that formal hositilities have formally resumed with Iraq, we feel it appropriate to start a new troop prayer thread.

We have many fine young men and women known to us here at FreeRepublic.com serving in the Army, Navy, Marines, Airforce and Coast Guard. Several on our troop list to date actually are registered in the forum, and have become known to us personally among the constellation of Freepers.

To them we send our greatest respect and gratitude. We send them our prayers and good thoughts. We ask for God's blessing upon them and their families.

Cleveland Democrat votes no on resolution supporting troops

WASHINGTON - Cleveland Democrat Stephanie Tubbs Jones was the only Ohioan in Congress to vote "no" on resolutions supporting U.S. troops in Iraq.

The resolutions were approved by the House 392-11 and by the Senate 99-0.

Tubbs Jones said Friday she opposed the House resolution because it connects Iraq to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and says the country poses a continued threat to the United States.

Neither of those claims has been proved, she said, adding that is the reason the United States couldn't persuade the United Nations to support an attack.

Democratic Reps. Dennis Kucinich of Cleveland and Sherrod Brown of Lorain, Ohio, voted "present," a way to show displeasure without voting against a measure. Both lawmakers have spoken out against the U.S. attack on Iraq.

Tubbs Jones said she supports American troops. She co- sponsored a different congressional resolution Friday that supports the troops without including the other statements. That resolution wasn't considered.

She said she also demonstrated her support for the troops by voting against budget cuts to veterans benefits.

"Our veterans deserve better than lip service," she said.

That is a wonderful idea! Thanks for explaining. I knew that ...- was V in morse code, and that in WWII it was used as a byword for Victory. I had seen it here on the thread, but did not realize that folks were using it for bumps.

Another little piece of info about the "...- = V= Victory" :
In WWII the 5th Beethoven Symphony became known as the Victory Symphony because the opening rhythmical figure which is used throughout, is ...- !

So.....I HIGHLY recommend playing the Beethoven 5th Symphony as a symbol of VICTORY!! There is also something about it that makes you feel wonderful after you hear it. If you are not friends with this great masterpiece of music, please consider getting acquainted with it!

Well said. I agree that the final truth of this will be revealed in the unfolding of events. I was just so excited because we did a prayer "bomb" a while ago and then we hear this amazing possibility. I heard it both on the radio station news service and on Hannity's show. The point I think is this. Things are very fluid right now, and that is the kind of situation where prayer can have the most effect!

I apologize to any who may feel it was a gratuitous ping, but I gave long thought to it before hand because it seemed like an encouragement and a direct answer to what we are seeking to accomplish here!
