Yes, Natalie, there is a reason

Natalie Marmion (ABC affiliate KATU-TV, Portland, Oregon on March 17, 2003): The announcement that war is close sent the stock market soaring.
Wrong, Miss Information. The President announced that if certain conditions are not met by his chosen deadline, March 19, 2003, his coalition of the willing, whether it includes the troops of two nations or many, will enter Iraq, and shortly close the book on the regime of dictator Saddam Hussein. That is why the stock market soared. What, you ask, is the difference between what you said and what I just said? A grasp of the situation is the difference.
This business of grasping a situation requires a little research. You don't just repeat the feeds from the network if good journalism is your goal. Take your report about the NW girl who was run over by the Israeli bulldozer, for example. She was, according to a source close to the events, burning the American flag in a Palestinian demonstration two weeks ago, and at the time of her death was trying to block the dozer from destroying a home that was a conduit for terrorist smugglers. What did they smuggle? Body explosives into Israel so Arab children could detonate themselves in public places, intentionally slaughtering civilians. Odd that you didn't mention that part. Was it because you haven't spent a single minute looking into the story?
This stock market item, now, while not so dramatic, represents bad reporting, as well. No, Natalie, it is not the proximity of war that made stocks soar. It is the elimination of one category of doubt....(snip)

HA!!
~& believe you me
that's no joke, either. (or cartoon as it were).
Of course that'd be one of the major differences between a leader like Dubya & myself, too.
I could never control myself nearly as well as Dubya seems to -- & with such ease -- whenever he's dealing with our shameless, insideous Liberal-Socialist lamestream media.
No way.
...I'd be compelled to punch their lights out.

Thanks for the Ping. How truly this reflects the left.
Another reason never to compromise with them.
They will never give you credit for it and stab you in the back the next day.

"In any event, this recent stock market "surge" is so reminiscent of how the DOW reacted to the '94 congressional takerover, by Newt&Co. Of course you remember that, huh. How Clintigula was to be "assigned" all the credit by this very same ABC & their mediot alphabet soup pals?"And how Bush was to be assigned the blame when it was learned that the dotcoms were "cooking" the books during the 90's.

Send Jennings to Guantanamo instead, for a long hard look at the lives of those he condones.
Besides, we've got enough Jennings 'clones' up here as it is.

Thanks for the ping.
This is an excellent 'piece', and a good 'broadside' on poster-boy Peter 'I am American' Jennings.....

I think it's a bit more complicated than the author says. The announcement that war is near
is what made the market go up. The uncertainty we are talking about is not the uncertainty of the
date the war will start, but how long we have to endure the unknown conequences of war.
The uncertainty is not gone yet. It will not be gone until the war is over. However, the market went up because Bush announced that the uncertainty will be ending soon. If Bush had anounced that the war would start exactly on June 19 at 8:32 PM, the market would have fallen, because there would be three more months of uncertainty, rather than a few more weeks.

You are delightful, Amelia!
Salvation is among our most stalwart Oregon conservatives. There are many like him. All of us are completely ignored by Oregon's liberal-controlled (fascist) media. The liberals don't like to admit there are conservative Oregon publications, like Oregon Magazine. The liberals want conservatives to feel isolated and unheard. It isn't working all that well!

I know that I've met quite a few good FReepers from that area - it's a shame the libs get all the attention. Perhaps publications like this magazine will help.
I know those who lived up that way and were involved with the forest products industries tended to be fairly conservative. Have the envirowackos driven them all out yet?

Amen, EBUCK! You, Salvation, ex-Texan, oceanperch,...gosh, there are so many of you who provide real leadership for Oregonians in so many ways. Oregon conservatives are beginning to recognize that we hold tremendous power in this state. That's what the Democrats have tried to keep hidden.

Oregon conservatives are beginning to recognize that we hold tremendous power in this state. We hold all the power. We make the money, we provide the jobs, we BUILT this State, how dare them rat ba$tards put their boot to our necks!
No more. Oregonians are waking up and realizing that the rats have been leading this State into disaster for 25 years and we aint happy about it. Proof, Measure 28, would have cost the average tax-payer a measley extra 9 bucks, NO!
And it's thanks to people like you that people like me are informed enough to do what we do! Thank you!
