"Yea, even Jesus Christ speaking by the voice of my servant whom I have called and chosen to be a light and a covenant to the world in these last days. I have called him and given him a name to be had in remembrance before me, even the name Immanuel David Isaiah, which name being interpreted means: God with us -- Beloved of God -- The Lord is salvation -- signifying the deliverence (sic) that shall come to my people by my mighty hand in these last days...."

Joseph Smith absolutely practiced polygamy. He had at least 8 wives.

Joseph Smith and Polygamy

Brigham Young had even more wives, I believe it was 27. I do remember that not all of them were very happy about it and one threw a sewing machine out of the window in protest.

Usually in brainwashing, they turn the victim against their family, they actually resist being sent back home ---that doesn't seem to be the case here. Elizabeth looks happy to be home, like they never turned her against her family.

"And I, the Lord God, hid up my true servant Immanuel in the wilderness, and he is in their midst and they knew him not."

And the judge hid up Immanuel the Pedophile Prophet in federal prison, and he was in their midst, and fellow inmate Bubba and his posse knew exactly who he was.

"Brigham Young who started the polygamy stuff?"

I believe Brigham Young had 28 wives, but he was Smith's successor. Here is one passage regarding Joseph Smith's "revelation" on polygamy:

"In direct opposition to the teaching of Jesus Christ in Matthew 19:4-9, the Mormons embraced polygamy. Not only were they permitted to have multiple wives, they were required to do it to reach the highest heaven. Joseph Smith at Nauvoo, Ill., on July 12, 1843, made the following "revelation" concerning polygamy from the Lord:
For behold, I reveal unto you a new and everlasting covenant [polygamy]; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my [Lord's] glory (Doctrine and Covenants 132:4).
So, not only was one permitted to have multiple wives, it was demanded to progress into the highest heaven (Mormons believe there are three heaven- kingdoms and three levels in the highest of three heavens). Not only did Joseph Smith's "revelation" contradict the Bible, but it also contradicted his Book of Mormon (Jacob 1:15; 2:24; 3:5; Mosiah 11:2)."

I saw that too. The stepson said he had an 'empty look' in his eyes and 'gave him the creeps' when he frequently 'touched his shoulder'.

Sounds like he didn't know how many wives he had.

"An excellent resource for their history is a book named the Kingdom Of The Cults (Walter Martin)."

Dr. Walter Martin had amazing knowledge. His earliest roots were also in Mormonism so his expertise not only came from his extensive studies in comparative religion, but from personal experience. I always found it interesting that his works were, and I imagine still are, taboo reading for Mormons. I had the privilege of attending a conference with Dr. Martin, must have been in about 1980 and have attended other events in which he was a featured speaker. He did a great deal in his life to expose cultic doctrines to the light of truth.

BTW, do you have any idea how he could have known about Jessica Wright?

Only by inference. The news reports say that he stalked Elizabeth Smart and watched her house from the area behind the house. If the cousin visited the Smart house, he could've observed her there and gotten the information from Elizabeth. I cannot remember where I heard this (I thought it was on CNN, but I can't find it in the transcripts), but I believe Mitchell's mother lived near the Wright household.

Isolation of the victim is a technique of domestic abusers--cutting off the victim from his/her friends and family.

...and heretofore Immanuel will be submissive and obedient unto thy fellow inmates, for Immanuel art now a Queen, and Immanuel art the jubilee of them all signifying the daily covenant of colon therapy. Oh Hephzibah!

"The truth of the matter is I doubt most Mormons even know their own church history."

You are correct in that assumption. If you take the stand, which I do, that nothing is greater than the foundation upon which it is built, it would be impossible to hold that the doctrines of Mormonism were divinely inspired in light of historical facts. I believed what is taught is a selective and sanitized version of history combined with a list of authors and titles that are taboo reading for Mormons. I know the ones I have discussed the history with were completely ignorant of details.

I know but in cases like Patty Hearst ----if that was a brainwashing case, she was turned against her family. When people are forcefully removed from cults, they often have to be dragged kicking and screaming to their families, their minds were turned against them. Elizabeth looks very normal and glad to be with her family --her smiles are too genuine.

What about the Judeo-Christianity foundation? Didn't Abraham himself take a younger wife and didn't he just about kill his own son until some Angel showed up? To me it's not the past, it's what it is now.

I'm sure she's going to have long-term effects once the euphoria wears off, as well as the rest of her family. If only she could be protected form having to face her kidnappers in court, but she has a very strong support system, and they'll help her through that ordeal. She has to be incredibly strong to survive being with these two slimeballs for the past nine months, and her strength will get her through. But it isn't going to be easy. The media and the tabloids won't help her one iota. She doesn't even have a semblence of normalcy yet, and I fear that when she tries--like going back to school--there's going to be the usual media scrum surrounding her.

God tolerated the taking of concubines. He never commanded it and there is no evidence that it was ever God's will for a man to have multiple wives. Polygamy was never a doctrine of Judaism nor was it claimed to have been divinely inspired as was the case with Joseph Smith. And if you read some of the Old Testament stories of men with multiple wives, there was always trouble as a result, more evidence that it wasn't God's will, but man's (doubtless influenced by the cultures in which he was immersed).

By their fruits ye shall know them. (Matthew 7:16)

The very first thread that had this guy's photo (before Elizabeth was found), my comment was "he looks like Rasputin." Someone posted Rasputin's pic up after that on the thread. He totally reminds me of him, looks like him, drinker, sexual deviant, and filthy looking. Gregory Rasputin and this guy are one in the same personality wise- EVIL. I believe the Romanov's involvement with Rasputin contributed big time to their down fall.

I guess we know the 'spirits' which motivated his 'revelations'!

This morning on Fox they were talking about this in reference to some information that suggested that this guy wants to serve as his own legal counsel, and how awful it would be if he had the opportunity to cross-examine Elizabeth (or do pre-trial depositions.) Apparently, though? there is a provision in the law that victims of sexual abuse don't have to testify, and more than likely the prosecution has plenty of evidence without her testimony.

Thanks. That explains a few things. I heard Angela Smart say yesterday that Lois did NOT bring this man into their home--he worked outside (on the roof) and was supervised by Ed. However, I think it's possible that Elizabeth may have been with Lois when she originally met Mitchell, tho she didn't say that for sure. I had wondered how Mitchell knew where Eliz's bedroom was--if he had been stalking her, that could explain it. But I find it curious that he wasn't noticed by anyone else.
