US troops stationed in southern Kuwait are heading for the Iraqi border as diplomats continue to search for a compromise over another UN resolution.
Britain's ambassador to the UN, Sir Jeremy Greenstock, said the threat that military events may overtake the diplomatic process had failed to galvanise members of the Security Council.
Speaking at a press conference in New York, Sir Jeremy said: "We have made the critical point that there has to be a strong signal that there is a strategic change by Iraq."
[...]
Their comments came as US forces in southern Kuwait began leaving their bases and heading for the Iraqi border.

It's coming sooner rather than later, I say war by Sunday, maybe sooner if that fool decides to preempt us.

Chosen to Suffer
They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the Name. (Acts 5:41).
All of us are called upon to suffer in one way or another. Much of our suffering goes to waste because it is not geared up with an all-compelling purpose. A great cause, such as liberty, chooses men who are big enough to suffer, men who can take it. It chooses men who have the stuff in them to endure hardships; who can laugh at privations; who are willing to give up privileges, comforts, and ease. It chooses men like the apostles who, after being treated in a most shameful way and cruelly flogged, came from that experience rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer for the name of Christ.
Great causes have a way of choosing men who are worthy to suffer. And it is through men that suffer that great causes come to victory. The highest blessings that we enjoy today came in this way. Christ on the cross, Washington at Valley Forge, Lincoln baited by newspapers and even by his cabinet members, and a few among many who were chosen to suffer for great purposes and were found worthy bringing victory to the cause that chose them.
In these days, the great cause of liberty is again choosing men to suffer for its sake. Shall we who are chosen be found worthy?
Prayer:
Our Father, we are being called upon to suffer for the sake of all men everywhere. The great cause of liberty, with all that it means, is calling for men who are worthy. Wilt Thou make us worthy in every way. Keep the high purpose of freedom upper-most in our hearts, and cleanse us from all selfishness. Dedicate us anew to the high cause of world brotherhood, and give us the victory of an enduring peace. And so shall our suffering be not in vain. In the Spirit of Christ we pray. Amen

"The Turkish parliament is holding three days of special sessions to discuss authorising US troop deployments in the country."
The war will probably be over before the Turks make up their minds.

This is not really breaking news. Forces have been moving from camps to jumping off areas near the border since the 9th or 10th or this month.

Ruh-roe, tomorrow may be an interesting day. Why?

Well I'm not sold that we're going in but Friday is the Islam (the religon of peace) holy day. It >may< be that we'd wait until after midnight Friday, Iraq time, and move or maybe a bit later on Saturday.
Who knows? We've all been speculating for months. Personally I could care less about the diplomacy. I wish we had gone in a LONG time ago. In fact we shouldn't have stopped in G1.

It's certainly not going to happen tonight, or tomorrow, but mid-next week now looks likely as the opening of the window. Regardless of the diplomatic stuff, 10 ships have to be moved around so that they can fire cruise missiles over Saudi airspace now that Turkey is blocking that too, so there's a few more days at least.
Also, there's going to be a summit next week some time between Bush and Blair and the Spanish Prime Minister where they will probably deliever a non-UN deadline of a few days to Saddam. I think there's a good chance the the 2nd(18th) resolution will be abandoned over the weekend unless there is a big shift in the way people are thinking, and that we'll be close to war if not at war by about this time nect week.

I agree. Your scenario, especially considering the summit, is most plausable.
Unless Saddam does something (attack us or israel, light up the wells for cover), or there is some other HUGE devlopment...i.e. major terror attack, etcetera.

The summit may just be a planning session for how we are going to get the UN to give us permission to go to war.

Forces have been moving from camps to jumping off areas near the border since the 9th or 10th or this month. The implication is that this particular batch of moves is directly related to the Iraqi forces heading toward the Kuwait/Iraq border from Baghdad. (anybody know a transit time and ETA on those enemy forces?)

I've read your posting twice, and its call to suffer for freedom is an echo from a spiritual view that needs to be voiced today.
Thanks very much for posting this. Its ethics are so much nobler than anything the peaceniks are spouting.
