Tioga High School senior Tiffney Juneau let out tears of relief at Tuesday's Rapides Parish School Board meeting. The board voted to let her and many others in her shoes walk across the stage at graduation even though they have not passed their Graduation Exit Exam. Tioga High is north of Alexandria.

This is a good example of how "popular will" causes elected officials (in this case in Central Louisiana, but it could be anywhere) Ito bend to "public opinion," even at the expense of principle. Moreover, why would a student who failed an exit exam want to be part of a graduation ceremony? It's likely that "education" is now mostly a "rite of passage."

Here's another one. Poor Tiffney.
Probably too busy out partying with her "friends" Crystal, Amber and Star to study enough to pass ridiculously easy exit exams.

"... but it's just about getting to be with my friends."

And after all, that is what's important, isn't it? (sarcasm)

It's all about self-esteem, you see!

Hopefully we won't have to listen afterward to the failures whine that because some of the students got diplomas and others didn't, that the graduation ceremonies were inherently unfair and should be banned altogether.

You beat me to it. That's exactly what I was going to post. It never enters their little twinkie heads that they may be there for some other reason.

Those girls could become the future leadership at the UN. I'm glad they can spend time together instead of having to face the hardships of reality.</sarcasm>

Oh but you know that will eventually be the case.
I think further that the school system should see that Tiffney and her friends get jobs (even though they can't read, and critical thinking other than what brand of beer to buy is beyond them).
The school system should be required to employ these people for at least one year as aides and secretaries and the like.
Let them reap what they have sown.

They already do. Houston ISD employs people at many levels who would be severely challenged in the food service or housekeeping industries.

Criminal behavior is not a problem either. You can steal from them (wholesale) and get promoted.

All it takes is being the right color.

God forbid their precious little self esteem should be compromised.
