VANITY: Time to face truth, Bush has blinked

It is deeply painful to write this, but in light of diplomatic events over the weekend and today, evidence is accumulating that President Bush, facing the prospect of war AND the prospect of the UN crumbling because of his policy, has blinked.
It is clearly foolhardy to give the UN any more time, yet Bush seems to be anxious to do so. The UN will collapse, not because of Bush or the US, but because of the arrogance of the French and its own existing internal absurdities. Yet, Bush now seems to be be doubting his own course, his own determined words. He now seems to be looking to the UN for reassurance, for validation that his course is correct. It is a mirage. However, his demeanor at the recent press conference and the muddled course of US foreign policy in the days since has heightened my suspicion that reassurance has now become his biggest concern.
Is there danger? Of course. Saddam may unleash a terrible biological plague on humankind. But would the world be safer if we waited, if we let Saddam continue to develop and build his horrible weapons? There is danger, but there is every possibility that history will justify Bush, and future generations honor him, if he takes decisive action. It is a true saying that history is written by the victors and boldness is often the measure of victory. Let the US meet its destiny. Let the US write the history of the next months and years. The circumstances are now crying out for action. The troops are ready. More of Iraq's duplicity has been revealed. Yet, to the dismay of many, Bush hestitates and delays. There is no longer a logical explanation for it. The UN, as it exists today cannot be saved, unless the US surrenders its sovereignty. Why still tinker with it? Why act as if the opinions of an out-moded committee, the UN Security Council, still matter? It is time to be bold, to build a true "new world order," composed of true friends of freedom.
George Washington warned of entangling alliances. Now, we see ourselves held captive to the political circumstances of our best ally, Britian. Yet, every day that goes by, the US loses, not gains, domestic and international support. Why? Because there is a subconcious recognition among both friends and foes that the moment to act may have already passed. Dangers are building, opportunities are slipping away, our enemies are being emboldened.
Action, like Alexander slicing the Gordian knot, may still solve all of the growing tangles. However, I am now concerned, and am deeply sorry to say, that it appears that Bush, a hero of mine, has looked into the uncertainty of tomorrow and blinked. Tragically, the cost of not acting will be horrendous for the world and for conservatives.

I am frustrated with the lag too, but I don't think it's because Bush has blinked. I think it's because Blair has blinked. He faces a high likelihood of a vote of no confidence if we continue without a UN resolution.

I wrote a similar post last week.
I am not prepared to say that GW has blinked as much as I am willing to say that he allowed cakeboy generals to define the force required [which isnt required] and he shouldnt have returned for a second resolution.
If he doesnt drop the hammer this week[end]...then we got a problem.

Let's see what happens on Monday, the 17th, in Iraq. Then the tale will have been told.

I can see why they call these vanities:
"Yet, Bush now seems to be be doubting his own course, his own determined words. He now seems to be looking to the UN for reassurance, for validation that his course is correct. It is a mirage. However, his demeanor at the recent press conference and the muddled course of US foreign policy in the days since has heightened my suspicion that reassurance has now become his biggest concern."
Nothing in Bush's words or actions justifies this. He has been repeating the same line he has laid out for 6 months. The only suspicion is that we are dragging this out longer than we need to. Frnakly, that is not the US, but the UK trying to angle for UN support we wont get.
France and Russia are determined not to giv eup their Iraqi interests and others dont want to support our war openly.
Man yof us trust Bush. He will show he is true to his word by leading a coalition of the willing to disarm Saddam by force and liberate that country. It is far too late to turn back now and Bush will see this through. I only ask that Bush act now and get this done with as soon as possible.

I think the points you raised here are good ones, but they are mis-directed. These are not good reasons for the U.S. to go to war against the wishes of the U.N. -- they are good reasons never to have gotten the U.N. involved in the first place.
Carrying out the course of action you recommend is the equivalent of sending the captain of the football team out for the coin toss, then demanding to receive the kickoff even though you lost the toss.

Hero of yours? How could that be? You don't even understand his poker moves.
Is that you Ann Richards?
To: Cyber Liberty; white_wolf

No, Bush has not blinked. When you have 300,000 troops in theater, and the field commander is on his way to his final assignment before attack, that's all you should need to know.
The UN thing is a sideshow, nothing more, nothing less.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

Don't panic yet. If we beg hard enough, Cameroon or Guinea may grant us their permission to go to war.

A pregnant Tahitian lady legally married to an American both residing here in Hawaii were notified by the police and immigration Saturday --- she will be deported due to the fact she is presently a French national no longer welcome in America ... while citizenship papers were already on file for her to live here permanently!

We would not know the UN was this inept unless Bush took this exact course.
