Fasting and Prayers for our Military and the suffering People of Iraq
3-6-03 | patriciaruth

Anyone who would like to request prayers or fasting for their loved ones in the military or for themselves as they go into harm's way, or would like to offer up such prayers and fasts, please join this thread.

Isaiah 58

Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.
Yet they seek me daily and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.
Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seeth not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.
Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high.
Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and acceptable day to the LORD?
Is not this the fast I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seeth the naked, that thou cover him; and that thy hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy reward.
Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thou light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:
And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day,; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD honorable; and shalt honor him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

St. Paul's first letter to the Corinthians 6: 19-20:

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. -- John 15: 12

Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodnesss and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Don't worry, Pat.
I won't make your monitor blush on this one.
God knows old Gyrenes have a certain way of saying things.
It's never politically correct, but it's always to the point.
Good to see you!
HUGS!!

Yes, Pat, I do. Thank you.

To my young Gyrene friend named Jason, who just left Gitmo and is on his way as we write:
May you have the strength of Samson, the wisdom of Solomon, the courage of Joshua, the faith of Job and the salvation of Jesus Christ to guide you, and may you come home safe to us.

To Misty, my niece, waiting on her call:
God knew you in the womb and still holds you dear.
I bounced you on my knee and cherished your laughs of glee.
You know if there were any way possible this old uncle would take your place in a heartbeat.
But then I'd be cheating you out of being a part of the greatest military force the world has ever seen, and I'd be robbing you of the privilege of defending the greatest nation on earth.
As in all the wars that have gone before, you will do your duty of fighting and we will do our duty of supporting your efforts and praying for your safe return.
May God bless you and keep you.

Our President needs us to pray and has asked for wisdom, strength and protection for his own family. Perhaps some very marked threats have been cast.

I am going on my knees shorty to lift up our military and their families, our President and his, our nation and the nations and leaders who are supporting us in this effort to crush a man who defines evil.

I thank God for leadership our President has given to this nation. I thank our Father for President Bush's humanity, tenderness, his utter clarity of speech and his refusal go play games on a superficial international playing field, his couage, vision and most of all-our President LOVES our FATHER and shares this with us. We are so blessed to have a President who is NOT AFRAID TO LEAD. That cannot be said enough!

Our President needs us right now.

We must pray that our Father puts a mighty hedge around our nation, our President and his family and administrative team, our congress and all unarmed innocents, wherever they may be.

We need to pray for Israel, for our allies, and for supranatural, swift and accurate skill on the part of all of our military. We need to ask for forgiveness. And we need to Thank our Father for his breathtakinly overwhelming love.

Tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday and throughout these days....we need to join our prayers and lift up our pleas to the Father we love.

Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill, and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of judgment:
But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: And whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: But whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
Leave thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

Matthew 5: 21-24

Pray Hard!

Together, we are praying for America
And her sons and daughters
Half a world away
But near and dear to our hearts
And constantly on our minds

My fellow Christians
My fellow Americans
Hold them up constantly
Along with our brave allies
Before the Throne of Grace

Implore the Lord of Hosts
To move His Mighty Hand
On behalf of the forces
Of good and justice

God bless America!

Amen!!
