I do not intend to ignite a religious firestorm, but don't catholics have a bit of a dark history in this department?

To hell with this. Was 09/11/01 justified?
To: Happy Valley Dude
LOL. How many atheistic communist red diaper doper babies will be eagerly voting YES I AGREE with the POPE!
To: Happy Valley Dude
Well, what do you expect the pope to say? No war is justified to his way of thinking...he probably felt the same way about his own country back in '39 when the Nazis came marching in to Warsaw!

It's not entirely clear that this is what the Pope actually said. If he did, then it's a matter of prudential judgment rather than faith and morals, and I disagree.

Yes, I think the crusades might be part of that dark past along with the burning at the stake of Jacque Demolay just because the catholic church couldn't pay back their loans to the masons so the pope's word is of little use.

As a Catholic, I resent the Pope getting involved in political situations. What can he possibly know about the muslims in Iraq? Given the opportunity, the muslims would assasinate the Pope as part of their Jihad. He should have given a bleesing to GWB and held a mass in his honor. The U.S. does more charitable works for POS third world countries than any other nation. The U.S. does more to prevent genocide than any other nation, the U.S. gives more food and medicine aid than any other nation and the Pope thinks we are wrong???????

It was a prudential judgement from what I can make of it and John Paul II is entitled to his own opinion on the matter. Though I have to say that while the media sure as hell held up the brave dissenting AmChurch folks during the sex abuse scandal as though they were some kind of saints because they dared to disagree with the evil, tyrannical Vatican(TM), they sure as hell seem to listen to what the pope has to say when it comes to his thoughts on a war with Iraq.
If only they felt the same every time he condemned the far greater tragedy of abortion.
My personal opinion is that the Holy Father believes that by adopting this stance he can safeguard the lives of thousands of Chaldean Christians who might otherwise be slaughtered if Saddam feels the need to prove his Islamist credentials, but that is my own opinion.

Everyone knows that anything "from the Pope" is a total joke.
His brain is oatmeal and has been for at least the last three years.
Someone writes a proc. for him to sign and he signs it as if it were a dinner check.
I must admit, it amuses me how much weight it is given in the media.

I am Catholic, and believe in the Just War Doctrice. It is permitted within my faith to determine what I feel is a Just War, based on my views of the issue.

There is another thread running here where the Pope supporters have assured us that he really doesn't mean it ( SARCASM)

While I disagree with the Holy Father here, your vicious attack on him is nothing short of pathetic.

I just love how the liberal media trashes the Pope and Catholics, but runs to them when it fits their agaenda.

The Pope's credibility took a major downturn when he did that photo-op of him kissing the Koran.

What can he possibly know about the muslims in Iraq? That's a valid question, but I would point out that when the Vatican stands up and opposes a host of depraved, nihilistic radical feminist and population-control measures in the United Nations, it usually finds itself on the same side as these Islamic nations. And on the other side of the table is a group of ugly, bitter, Satanic screeching banshees from the United States and western Europe.
When the Islamic fundamentalists toppled the government in Iran in 1979 and deposed the Shah, the U.S. embassy was the second building they sacked in Tehran. The first one was the Iranian headquarters of Planned Parenthood.
Just an interesting little tidbit to put things in an interesting perspective.
