The capture of Khalid Sheik Mohammad has confirmed that Al Qaida is about to launch a major terrorist attack against the United States of America tied to the onset of hostilities against Iraq. Then why did they lower the terror alert to yellow?

This purported attack by al-Qaeda - wasn't it maybe short-circuited by the raid that netted Khalid Sheikh Mohammed?
And for those who were bellyaching because we had still not caught bin Laden, yet we were preparing to wage war against Iraq, did this mute their objections in the least? Probably not, but the development was so unexpected, they are at a loss in how to frame their objections.

Then why did they lower the terror alert to yellow? costs too much

"(W)hy did they lower the terror alert to yellow?" To signal the capture of a coward.

The old "If you do this we'll do that" ploy. Sounds like Saddam's "Mother of all Wars" crap from 91 to me.

US Intel Sees Major Al Qaida Attack Triggered by Iraq WarSince they plan on attacking us anyway, I'll take that chance.
We'll probably know when the attack on Iraq is close when the terrorist alert goes to red.

I think we are close to snagging Bin Laden and/or his family members..

I think the cost factor comes into play.
And the fact that once we start attacking Iraq, we can raise the threatcom back up again..

I think that we have to look at the beginning date of that last raise in the alert. Anyone remember?? I think it will give us the day we "tagged" these last captures for future pickup.

That was just a bit of disinformation. It never went to yellow. It's actually at "Dandelion" which is just a smidge below orange. You don't believe me? I'm looking right at my daughter's box of 64 Crayola crayons; the official DOHS color guide. When those terrorists try something, we'll slap 'em with a "Macaroni and Cheese" alert so fast they won't know which way is up!!

I would guess that sometimes the top guys (the planners) are not as tough and used to immediate personal stress and danger as the lower-level personnel (the implementers).
