U.S. Takes Sole Custody of Al Qaeda's Mohammed
Reuters ^ | 3-3-3

Posted on 03/03/2003 8:32:16 AM PST by Indy Pendance

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Al Qaeda leader Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was in U.S. custody and has been taken out of Pakistan for interrogation following his capture over the weekend, a U.S. official said on Monday.

There have been some conflicting reports over whether Mohammed was still in Pakistan and being questioned by Pakistani as well as U.S. authorities.

A U.S. official told Reuters that Pakistan had handed Mohammed over to U.S. authorities and that he was solely in U.S. custody and had been taken out of Pakistan to an undisclosed location for questioning.

Analysts have described Mohammed as a pivotal figure in al Qaeda who planned its operations and vetted all recruits.

The United States, under criticism for failing to arrest the top leaders of al Qaeda while focusing on a possible war on Iraq, was elated by news of Mohammed's arrest, describing him as "a key al Qaeda planner and the mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks."

The chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives intelligence committee, Porter Goss, said it would result in "other very successful activities soon" and suggested U.S. operatives were already moving on information seized when Mohammed was arrested.

Washington had put a $25 million price on Mohammed, one of 22 people on the FBI's list of "most wanted terrorists."

The Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington by hijacked airliners killed about 3,000 people and Mohammed has been associated with virtually ever other major al Qaeda attack.

He was indicted in the United States in 1996 for his alleged role in a plot to blow up 12 U.S. airliners over the Pacific. Intelligence officials in the Philippines say he was part of a cell accused of plotting to kill Pope John Paul there in 1995.

He is also suspected of involvement in the bombing of U.S. embassies in Africa in 1998 and an attack on a U.S. warship, the USS Cole, in Yemen in 2000.

A Pakistani newspaper has linked him to the kidnapping and murder of U.S. reporter Daniel Pearl. It said investigators believed Mohammed was the man who slit Pearl's throat in front of a video camera after the journalist disappeared in Karachi in January 2002 while investigating a story on Islamic extremists.

I sincerely hope he is not having a good time and is extremely uncomfortable by now.

Actually, it was at his own request...

He wants to get his hands on some more of that "good Budweiser and corned beef and cabbage I had last night."

I hope they get a lot of good information out of him before they execute him.

How long do you think it will take before Amnesty International starts filing lawsuits demanding cable TV and a larger exercise yard for this terrorist? Maybe Susan Sarandon will go (and STAY) on hunger strike for the "rights" of this murderer.

I wish we could have kept his arrest secret for a few days or if we could have monitored his communicatins for a while. We needed to give our guys some time to follow up on leads before others were alerted.

Or maybe we did and this arrest was designed to scare off others we can't trace just before we start Iraq war.

We have two of his sons at Gitmo. In Vietnam a common way to encourage a prisoner to talk was to take 3 up in a helicopter and push one out then ask questions of the remaining two. Seems that it could be effect here.

It's a good week to watch the borders and airports... for stragglers leaving the US.

Should be a surprising increase in the number of vacant rental houses and apartments, too.

Pakistanis face hurdles in journey from U.S. to Canada before deadline

By MICHELLE MACAFEE (Feb 23, 2003)

ST-BERNARD-DE-LACOLLE, Que. (CP) - For many weeks now, Pakistani visitors to the United States have relied on buses, cabs or the kindness of strangers to carry them north to Canadian border points and out of reach of tougher U.S. immigration rules.

But those arriving this month at the Lacolle border crossing have found seeking asylum in Canada has become more complicated, time-consuming and risky because of new measures Canadian immigration officials have adopted to cope with increased numbers.

That reality could continue for another month now that the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service has extended the deadline for Pakistani and Saudi Arabian citizens to register with the agency.

Many people headed for Canada have overstayed their visas in the United States and are from countries the U.S. government considers a high risk for terrorist activity. They could face deportation from the United States.

About 14,000 men from Saudi Arabia and Pakistan were to check in with U.S. immigration officials by Friday as part of a special registration system. However, the U.S. Department of Justice recently extended the deadline to March 21 to help people complete the process.

Visitors from Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan or Kuwait have until April 25 to register. [excerpt]

He will die a proper "Martyr's death" is U.S. custody. After a lot of psychological torture with the help of many truth-inducing drugs. In the end, at the very least, he will be stood in a line with other terrorists. Against a deeply pitted stone wall. He will never see his '72 virgins in Paradise.' Not a single one.

I have read several stories indicating he was arrested a month or so ago.

Apparently, he wasn't prepared to meet the 72 virgins when captured.

I do hope you are right....but how do you know this? Isn't it more likely that he will be put on trial like that POS in Germany?

How about a nice, slow, depilatory treatment using duct tape for this slimeball? :))

Interesting, that he no longer wears a beard. Was he attempting a "western" disguise so he could personally lead and participate in an attack?

MM and I have said for a long time, we don't need racial profiling to pick out these al Qaeda weirdos.

You just focus on those with terminal bad hair and basically butt ugly clymers for faces. The ones who probably stopped smiling as soon as they were born and found out where they were!

This clymer is anothe example of where racial profiling is not necessary to pick him out of the masses.

I hope he made the trip but his genitals didn't accompany him.
