This is awesome!! The USS TARAWA on TV!! I've got it marked and circled on the calendar so I don't dare miss it. This is a MUST-SEE! Thank you, snippy, for letting us know about it.

We're heading out the door for the Support Rally in Nashville. Both cameras and plenty of discs are in the car, along with our flags and signs. Y'all have a great day and I'll post a pic or two (or more *giggle*) when we get home tonight.

Camp Patriot, Kuwait -- Sealift vehicles belonging to the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army sit together pier side under the watchful eye of both the U.S. and Kuwaiti harbor patrol. From left, the Navy's Joint Venture (HSV-X1) and the Army's Spearhead (TSV-1X) are high-speed catamarans designed and built by Australian shipbuilders. The joint-service vessel design was coordinated by the Navy’s Warfare Development Command in close partnership with elements of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. The vessel’s impressive speed can move troops and equipment into a theater of operations quicker than currently used military transport vehicles. The ability to carry such loads is a considerable savings in both time and money when compared to using military and commercial aircraft. Your tax dollar$ at work: Coast Guard helping to protect Mardi Gras

http://www.jewishworldreview.com | (UPI) -- Even the U.S. Coast Guard is helping out with security during this year's Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The New Orleans Times-Picayune says bright orange helicopters, owned by the Coast Guard, have been patrolling from the skies in downtown sectors of the city and over parade routes. By the way, the New Orleans Police Department does not own its own helicopter.

The overflights were begun at the request of local police officials.

One official tells the newspaper the move was simply to make a "show of force," to let possible wrong-doers know that security is in place.

Assisting in the overflights is a helicopter operated by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department. All of the choppers involved in the Mardi Gras surveillance have high-powered searchlights.

The Coast Guard helicopter force in New Orleans is no stranger to providing security. It often is called on to assist when the president or other federal officials are in the city.
