Dennis Miller Supports Bush on Leno
Posted on 02/25/2003 10:13:22 PM PST by Bubbette
Dennis Miller,on the Tonight Show, reamed the French and specifically Chirac a new one and then went on to condemn "peaceniks" who compare President Bush to Hitler "you should put down your sign and give them a good a$$kicking". Miller then spoke directly to President Bush. Turning to the camera he stated that he doesn't know if the President is watching but unlike a lot of his fellow entertainers he admires and supports him and feels that he got dealt a tough deck of cards.

Though I have lurked since before the 2000 elections, I have never posted, so please be gentle! I was so shocked listening to Miller and trying to figure out how to post this that I've probably left out some of his zingers. Did anyone else see this? If so, please help me convey to others on FR all that he said because it's a rarity these days.

I missed him tonight but did watch him on Donahue a week or so ago. Miller is outstanding! And to think he came from SNL. Go figure!

Miller needed to look no further than those T.A.T.U chicks who had "F*ck War" in Russian on their T-Shirts.

I missed it, but as usual, FReepers who did shared the experience. Miller recognises a good man when he see's one and I salute his willingness to support our President as he deals with all the cans that were kicked down the road by the past administration.
Welcome to FRee Republic and your first post is very much appreciated by this FReeper
Cheers

I'm glad I recorded it, the most surprising thing was the positive audience reaction. Now I can turn off the vcr and change the channel because the Leno show can go nowhere but downhill for the rest of the night.

I will list his zingers, as well as I can:
1. He suggested having Bush do in Saddam the way Michael Corleone did the police captain in The Godfather. He had Cheney in the role of preparing the gun.
2. He thought we should run oil to the Eifel Tower and up the top, to make it look like an oil well.
3. He had no use for the French or the Belgians. He said the French (and I think the Germans) were involved in the Iraq reactors. He did not want the French involved at all if they changed their minds.
4. The liberal comment at the end was great. He said he used to be a liberal but look at what they did to California. He said it wasn't the San Andreas fault, it was the was the Gray Davis fault.
5. He gave a long speech about admiring President Bush and supporting him.
There was more. Dennis Miller has been superficial and silly at times but this crisis has broght out the best in him. He is smart, unlike most entertainers, and well read, so that is going to prevail in the long run. The same is true for Jay Leno.

Thanks one and all. Without FR I would be bald and hoarse.
Another zinger: I think we should just run a pipe from Iraq to Paris, hook it to the Eiffel Tower and create the biggest oil derrick in the world!

"He is smart, unlike most entertainers, and well read, so that is going to prevail in the long run. The same is true for Jay Leno." They are at least smart in reading their crowd. The joke-writers have decided that Pro-Bush, Pro-America jokes win the audience. You can hear the roar when Saddam is trashed and Bush vaunted.
Whether this is good politics or good showmanship I cannot tell. But the tone flipped from ambivalent to conclusive about three weeks ago, and the chosen side cannot be mistaken.

It was another brilliant performance from Dennis Miller. He also said something that earned my eternal admiration: the "peaceniks" have got to stop comparing Bush to Hitler. He was visibly revolted by the idea that some people would put swastikas on the U.S. flag just to make the antiwar point. He said something to the effect that, if you're at a peace rally and the guy next to you has a sign comparing Bush to Hitler, put the peace stuff on hold for a minute and just beat his a$$. At that point I jumped off the couch and yelled "BRAVO!!!!"

Maybe it was just me expecting a negative response from the left coast audience, but it almost seemed leming-like. You could hear a few start the clapping and them the majority chimed in after they saw it was ok to back the President and they wouldn't be the only ones.
