WABI TV reported Friday that the Maine National Guard Family Assistance Center has received about 30 complaints from children of deployed soldiers concerning Principals, Teachers and Guidance Counselors reportedly demeaning the role of their deployed parent. Some children involved are 7 to 9 years of age.
Here is a letter written to a friend of mine from the Maine Army National Guard:
"Thank you for your interest on this most troubling matter. Our Family Assistance Centers have reported cases from Aroostook County to Southern Maine. We are reluctant to give out specific schools and the individuals involved in the interest of giving the education community a chance to address the problem itself. Also, parents wanted the opportunity to pursue the issue through their local school boards first.
In all, we have over thirty complaints that name schools and individual principals, teachers and guidance counselors. If one considers that these complaints come from just the parents who attended our briefings and only from children who told their parents, we are concerned that the problem may be more widespread than we know.
We are recording the complaints, and I will personally visit these educators to express our concern as a professional organization and ask for their cooperation.
Ultimately, our main concern and first responsibility is the safety of our children during these uncertain times. Maine has a core of dedicated and professional educators, but we will challenge any individual who places our children at risk due to their own political ideologies."

I thought that's what I already said.
And I can guarantee you, you won't EVER find me in an NCC church. Might as well stay home and watch talking heads on TV! ;-)

Thanks for the ping. This story made me sick, moreso since I will shortly be transferring to Maine.
As much as it pains me, I am now GLAD that my soon-to-be-born child will be educated in FLORIDA, warts and all.

My parents who live in Arkansas just got an unsolicited odd letter in the mail today, hand printed with no return address and it basically says that Bush is evil. What bothers me is that both of my brothers are deployed and whoever sent it may know that. I want my parents to call the police but my Dad is just laughing at it.

Depending on denominational governance, it is often a good idea to take a matter like this to the church council or governing board locally and make it a matter of record right from the outset. Chances are the majority will agree with you. At the hierarchal levels, most churches are governed by people who had no use for the average sort of person in the denomination-- otherwise they would not have sought employment as far removed from them as possible without actually going outside the denomination and seeking secular employment where economics rules. Local congregations need to put it to the hierarchy and many issues where the hierarchy are slack morally, slack-jawed, and overstaffed in any case. Jesus didn't need a hierarchy of hundreds or thousands.

I will personally kick the ass of any teacher I hear saying anything negative to the children of our servicemembers. If this happened down south you would not be able to do this.....the line would be too long and you would tire of waiting your turn.
I feel sorry for conservatives in liberal country.

Fortunately, it's not likely to happen in the south. Whatever semblance of a martial culture we retain, is kept burning in the South. It is not for no reason that damned yankees like me lose our accents within a few months of entering active duty. The center of gravity of the U.S. military is well south of the Mason-Dixon line.

There is such an organization in existence (a conservative ACLU)...
It's called the ACLJ, the American Center for Law & Justice and it's website is

Wkwe, you are correct that Maine cannot be the only place where this horrible abuse of children is occurring. But because this story is out there right now, maybe we can get some intense heat applied that will deter others from drawing our collective wrath.
Keep up the pressure, everyone. Let's hope today was spent checking out the story and we'll hear some national news tomorrow. Please post it here when you here it!

I have made up a good Email with picture of a small boy of a soldier and the Maine travisty spelled out backed by sad Chopin etude but I don't know how to post it . Anyone want it by Email?

I have used up all my patience with the ignorant, traitorous left in this country. I am absolutely ready to beat the living snot out of the first a-hole I hear about who spouts brainwashing and insults at military dependents. I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm mad enough to chew on a barbed wire fence.
