More than 350 Republican activists rallied outside the state Capitol Saturday in support of an effort to recall Democratic Gov. Gray Davis even as some party leaders remained cautious about the recall drive.

"If the petition were put in front of me I'd sign it," Rep. Doug Ose, R-Sacramento, said at the state party convention. But, he added, "The re-election of President Bush is the top priority across this country for every good Republican."

Davis consultant Roger Salazar, watching from the sidelines, dismissed the complaints. "What you have here are a bunch of sore losers who can't stand the fact they got beat fair and square in the last election," he said.

"fair and square" ....Yeah, if you consider a media so biased in its reporting , that most who didn't vote said they were turned off by dirty politics.

Laughable.. until you look at the massive corruption and dereliction of duty carried out by davi$ and the demRatic socialzits in the state legislature. Cover that , media! Oh, and where was Bill Lockyer the whole time? Certainly not on the side of the people or their rights.

er... uh... actually... no... that's not quite.... er... correct.

It's more like the fact that Davis is continuing to ruin the state's economy, trying to raise taxes, pandering to extremist left wing agendas, attacking families, small businesses, large business and ruining the states energy system, while charging the highest utility rates in the nation....

If it were possible to commit treason against a state... Davis might be up on charges for what he has done to California...

... the republicans held back on Jarvis' prop 13 too, did n't want to be too extreme looking ya know... WHERE are the men with testicles at these days in california? Or are the all dressing in fuschia panties? Pubbies too?

Davis is only the symbolic head of a state that has sold it's soul to the "REGULATE EVERYTHING" socialists in the communist world. REAL REPUBLICAN LEADERS would be out front on this thing, massing at the state house DAILY against the evil-Davis, like the brave souls do in Venezuela... against another jerk... chavez.

sad. very sad.

Carol Goldberg, left, holds her son, Max Goldberg-Keller,

Davis (news - web sites), at the Capitol in Sacramento,
Calif., Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003. More than 350 people gathered
to support a recall of Davis' who they say has mishandled
the energy crisis and the state budget. Goldberg said she
voted for Davis in 1998 but didn't vote for him in last year's
election and wants to see him out. (AP Photo/Rich Pedroncelli)

Let our opponent hang himself on this budget...

I'm sorry but with the greatest respect - as we share a similar goal but perhaps different means - I disagree.

I get sick and tired of people suggesting that letting Democrats hang themselves is the best option - I just don't believe that this is the way to fight for what you believe in in a Democracy.

Understand - I am not sick and tired of YOU, antaresequity, but rather this is the one argument I hear from conservatives who oppose the recall effort. We cannot stand for liberty if we keep advocating do-nothing approaches whenever the Democrats f*** things up. The Democrats certainly never do this themselves. We should be smart in how we do this - reach out to people of ALL political parties whose lives are worsened from Gray Davis malfeasance and corruption and who share our anger over his lies and deceptions about the impending budget crisis he engaged in to squeak out re-election.

We should take ACTION!

Have you got an exit plan?

I personally would hunker, let Davis kill himself politically...then leverage the crap out of his failed administration during the next normal election cycle.

How much time do you gain by doing this?

Well we can wait FOUR more years for him to make things worse. I remember after the Energy Crisis a lot of people thought Davis had hung himself and Republicans should not be openly critical so he can hang himself.

Things have gotten SO MUCH WORSE - I just can't bear to watch it further deteriorate.

Exit plan is to have voters decide they have had enough of the failures, elect a Republican (McClintock, Fong, Jones, anyone - well not Riordan) and know take advantage of the opportunity to provide a CHOICE and not an ECHO in California politics.

I see this as the only way to erode into the Democratic stranglehold in the state.

If recall passes (if it makes the ballot) the successor is chosen on the SAME ballot - so the effects are immediate.

Exactamundo. Forget the recall. Another 4 years of Grey Davis is the best thing that could ever happen to the Republican Party in California.

The most important event that could insure the future success of the liberals and the Democratic party in California is for Davis to be removed and a Republican elected to fill his remaining term. The second best thing that could happen to insure the future success of the liberals and the Democratic party in California is for Davis to face a recall election and win.

If a Republican were to become governor rest assured he or she would get the blame. If the recall fails, the media can convince the public that all the problems California faces were created by the disruptive political actions of Republicans.

If the recall supporters need money they should ask the National Democratic party for aid. The DNC would very likely offer the recall group large sums of money to make the issue Republican obstructionism rather than the economic problems of California.

Democrats know a recall will position Republicans to take the blame for the terrible times that California will suffer in the next 4 years. Even if the recall fails, the Democrats (media) can blame California's problems on the divisive tactics of the Republicans.

The people who worked to make Bill Simon the Republican Candidate are the people who re-elected Gray Davis. The center voters were looking for candiate with solutions. All Simon did was attack Davis. It was the dumbest political move possible.

Today the same people are following the failed Simon tactics. Such tactics will give Davis a valid excuse for his failure to effectively govern in a second term.

Gray Davis has no better helpers than the former followers of Bill Simon.

Tom Daschle and Bill Simon have both proved that in bad economic and dangerous times leaders who attack the opposition party lose elections and public support.

Simon by attacking Davis, instead of offering solutions to the problems, ensured his own defeat. Now Simon's followers are trying a recall. That will only ensure the publics wrath against Republicans.

The state of California has a bad case of economic cancer. The public is looking for a doctor with cures. Some Republicans want to kill the only doctor around because they say he is a terrible doctor. The peole want their economic cancer cured. They want a new doctor not a doctor killer. When the choice is bad Doctor or no Doctor the bad Doctor wins.

The center did not vote for Davis or Simon because neither offered solutions. The political center was looking for solutions and neither Simon or Davis offered any. That is why the turn out in the governors race was 4 million voters low. The center in bad times is very opposed to political infighting. They will support those proposing solutions. They will blame those supporting political infighting.

Dubya has proved that in bad economic and dangerous times leaders who focus on fixing the economy and providing safety get high approval ratings.

A recall will replay the general election. Blue Dog Democrats will vote for Davis and broken glass Republicans will vote to recall and the turned off center will sit it out. Davis will win the recall election and the Republicans will take the blame for the states problems.

I used to live in that state and watched it go from bad to worse. If he were further along in his term, I'd say recall him. But the GOOBERS voted for him, so let them suffer.

"Some Republicans believe the recall drive could distract from their goals of electing candidates, registering new voters and working to close the state's budget gap."

It's funny how political strategists with all their experience think. The 'sore loser' defense of Gray-Out is absurd. What is really driving this recall drive is that the GOP isn't alone in its disapproval of Davis. There are some rats and quite a few independents who want it too. Otherwise, the GOP wouldn't be trying it.

The strategists fail to take into account that by taking the initiative on this, they are forcing the entire CA DNA to defend a turkey. That's an ugly position for them to be in, and it takes energy on both sides of this issue. In the SHORT RUN, it's a big win for the GOP.

But what about the Long Run? The rats will try to get recall votes at the drop of a hat. There's only one problem. Unless someone very dominant steps forward and squashes this, the rats will try this on GOP incumbents all across the country. Even if it is squashed, odds are good that the rats will try it anyway.

If the deficit is beyond repair, perhaps the California GOP should announce a refusal to nominate a guvenatorial candidate? Wouldn't that be a shock? Or perhaps they should announce an attempt to nominate the Gerber baby? Scratch that. That cute little face has a chance of winning, especially in California.

"The state of California has a bad case of economic cancer. The public is looking for a doctor with cures."

So what exactly is the cure? One idea would be to change their attitude toward energy with a DRASTIC shift...

1. Encourage more oil refineries.
2. Encourage more power plants.

Not only would it eventually solve their energy problem, but construction would immediately generate tax revenue.

Is California ready for that?
