Brooklyn Battery Tunnel Closed
Foc News televison | february 13, 2003 | Harpseal from Fox News Channel

Posted on 02/13/2003 10:15:14 AM PST by harpseal

Fox News Channel is reporting that the Brooklyn battery Tunnel is closed as police are investigating a "suspicous package." So far we are talking about almost a half hour between the first report and the last announcement of this. i would think if it was somebody's lunch or some dirty laundry they would know that by now.

However bomb squad is on the scene.

Fox News channel is on the background right now so aI will come back with any updates

Man, at times like these the assholes really start coming out of the woodwork. Someone did the same thing on the 14th St. Bridge in D.C. yesterday morning.

--several months ago it took some hours to determine that the "suspicious" object on the Hoover Dam highway (near Las Vegas) was a clamp from the truck of a highway crew painting stripes--

The Brooklyn Battery Tunnel is now re-opened so I would presume this may come off breaking News. When I put this out I was monitoring Fox News and it had gone on for a while so I hit the post.

My apologies I usually do not do much to breaking news but this seemed appropriate. Please ZOT as appropos.

"All is well. Tunnel reopened."

Good news - I have to leave for work in an hour and I'm taking the tunnel.

I know they're nervous about the tunnel. They closed off the little park in front of the building where the tunnel "breathes" at the battery end, and they put in a guard booth and generally keep a truck or bus parked there to keep terrorists from ramming it, I presume. That went into place not long after 9/11 and has been there ever since.

Brooklyn Battery Tunnel

That is the usually the bridge or tunnel that has the most security in NYC for some reason. That is just from casual observation from many trips through NYC for the last few months.
