Penn is a boob but he is also a fine actor. His work in Sweet and Lowdown, Falcon and the Snowman, At Close Range, State of Grace and Casualties of War is excellent, really above standard. Doesn't change things though, he's still a boob.

Sadly for Sean, it's been pretty much hackville since then and Carlitos Way was released in 1993.....

He never "acts". He just stands there and scowls. His "acting" is 100% affectation. My favorite movie of his was "Bad Boys", which was like 15 years ago. But that was only because of the good scences of violence. He was the lead character, but had less dialogue than nearly every other actor. I tried to watch "Dead Man Walking", but the first B.S. nonsense uttered by the idiot Sister Prejan made me shut it off.
