BERLIN (Reuters) - A majority of Germans believe the United States is a nation of warmongers and only six percent think President Bush (news - web sites) is interested in keeping the peace, according to a survey published Monday.
The poll by the respected Forsa institute, published in the Financial Times Deutschland newspaper, also found 97 percent of those questioned believed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) was ready to go to war.
The survey found 57 percent agreed with the statement: "The United States is a nation of warmongers."
German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has angered the Bush administration with his outspoken opposition to a war in Iraq, a position that has widespread backing in Germany where six million people were killed during World War II.
Tens of thousands of Germans have taken part in anti-war rallies in recent weeks.
The survey of 1,843 Germans found 93 percent believed Bush was ready to go to war in pursuit of his interests, while 80 percent said the United States wanted war to boost its power.
The poll also found 89 percent believed Schroeder was a "friend of peace."

On the one hand, the Schroeder government is very nationalistic (i.e. going their own way, not under America's sway). On the other hand, Schroeder's party is Socialist. So it's not unfair to say that the current German government is National Socialist.

These creeps didn't mind it when Reagan was calling for the Ruskies to tear down the Berlin Wall

The USA must pull out of Germany. The Germans don't want us here. I've never seen a pro-US demonstration. They just want our money, but they'll gladly take Saddam's too. They don't care how many people Saddam kills, not unlike a certain little Austrian they once followed.

The before the last time the UK faced the Germans for the World Cup title, one famous Brit -- maybe a PM -- said something in the realm of "Even if we don't defeat them playing our national sport, remember that we have defeated them twice at theirs."

Perhaps they should ask the Poles the same question about Germany. Poles like Germans to be anti-war and pacifistic.

We always hear about the propaganda of the great Goebbels. But, Stalins propagandists taught, tricked, and indoctrinated the world.
What we are seeing played out is the indoctrination and acceptance of Marxist, "peace", and anti-freedom sentiment by the vast majority of the world, including great segments of the free world.
Witness, German, France, South Korea - populations which despise us.

The nation of Germany has shown their true colors, once again.Ja, genau. Heil Saddam!

The USA must pull out of Germany.Right now I suspect there is more leverage in threatening to do so, than actually doing it, but it would not surprise me that we will pull out when it's to our advantage. We being there is quite an economic boom to Germany.

ironic! Yeah. Who better to recognize warmongering? Maybe the Japanese, but it's close.

Ok, Germany, we will attentively consider your comments about us, AFTER WE START TWO WORLD WARS AND INCINERATE 6,000,000 INNOCENT CIVILIANS!
What audacity!

AFTER WE START TWO WORLD WARS AND INCINERATE 6,000,000 INNOCENT CIVILIANS! 10,000,000 innocent civilians. And at least some were pureblooded Germans. They just happened not to be perfect.

Michael, I can't quite believe this poll or the results. Any chance they interviewed 1,843 Greens and Communists, instead of a true random sampling? Just how "respected" is this Forsa Institute?
