the UN has just about outlived it's usefullness

This could be a tragedy for those who have been collecting sheets and plate blocks and first day covers of UN stamps from the beginning. The stamps will as valuable as 50-billion Pfenning stamps from pre-war Germany. Penny stocks--cheap wallpaper.

Blix also said he hoped Iraq would soon enact legislation banning weapons of mass destruction

Why legislate against something that doesn't exist ?

I always thought Mary Jo's parents were paid mega bucks to be quiet. Never heard a peep out of them over the years. If she had been my daughter, I would not have let the matter rest. As a matter of fact, when this disgusting, anti-American, Ted Kennedy, was so self-righteously questioning A.G. Ashcroft during his nomination hearings, I would have screamed to the media about how he left my daughter to drown while he swam safely away. Come to think of it, if I'd have been Ashcroft, I would have told the drunk what I thought of him then and there.

"...Russia, France and Germany want to disarm America. They want to defeat America. "

Don't know about Russia, but France and Germany invested heavily in socialism, and not much in defense.

Now their socialist system is eating them alive, and they can't afford defense if they had to.

They want to stay relevant, yet can't contribute. So they do what they can to save face: They shout peace slogans, and obstruct.

Their worst fear is that the US liberates Iraq without their help. That will bite hard because it proves they are irrelevant, and because they couldn't afford to contribute.

This would be too humiliating to the declining Old Europe powers to take. My prediction: As soon as the bombing starts, France will grab the baton, jump in front of the band, and pretend it is leading it. Germany will shut up and let us use their airspace.

One more point: Both countries are heavily invested in Sadam's oil futures.

My guess is that this means Saddam has a Nuke or is close to having Nuke capability. He has stalled this long, and he is now stringing the UN along with "just enough" admission to keep the US from coming in. This way, he can get his Nuke stuff either smuggled out or set up to go off by the time the US eventually goes in (even if it is just a dirty bomb).

I say the sooner we can get in there and stop him the better. We are only letting him prepare better and set booby traps.

And why-o-why do we need permission to do the U2 flights? Who cares if he doesn't want to be watched?

"One more point: Both countries are heavily invested in Sadam's oil futures"

THAT is the bottom line.

Isn't this what Nancy Pelosi was hawking earlier in the week? LOL. The lefties are in sync if nothing else.

Russia is a mixed bag to be sure. Ideally, I'd like to see the United States and Russia become much more close. Realisticly there's Cheney's line of thought that is sadly closer to the mark than I'd like to acknowledge. On the one hand they're a fledgling Republic. On the other hand most of the old school is still in charge.

I think Russia mistrusts us more than anything. They need cash and I'm not sure we've been there. How would you feel if you were Russia, moving toward a Republic, then saw a full fledged communist power like China courted as the virgin bell of the ball?

Just when Russia was moving closer to what we had wanted for decades, we decided to court it's evil twin sister. Go figure!

Blix must not have been able to fully evacuate his team today.

Oh well!

While collateral damage is intentionally minimised, it is a mistake to assume it is avoided at all cost.I will shed more tears for a single casualty from the 101st than I will for the loss of the entire UN inspector group.

BTW, were you aware Ritter is giving a little talk at USF on Tuesday?

One more point: Both countries are heavily invested in Sadam's oil futures.

Not only that, but the author of the new book, "Saddam's Bombmaker," a defector from Iraq to the US, said flat out on "Crossfire" the other night that several years ago, France had agreed to sell nuclear reactors to Saddam. I was shocked this was not front page news anywhere. What's with the French government, knowingly selling nuclear reactors to Saddam???

The answer is that the French sold their collective soul for money a long time ago.

The posturing the French government does, for "peace," is really such a cr*ck. They are making money off nuclear reactors, they have oil contracts with Saddam, yet they never mention any of this to peace protestors. Of course they don't want war - if you're selling gas chambers to Hitler and you want his business, you'd be against war too.

As MadIvan and others have observed, the French and the Germans must be afraid of something monstrous being discovered in Iraq for which they are responsible.

Yeah, I am beginning to think some of the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq have "MADE IN FRANCE" stamped on them.

I do not understand the love affair with China but more importantly I will never understand any President even Clinton allowing our nuclear secrets to fall (I believe sold) into the hands of the Communitst Government of China. That doesn't even include the technology that was given to them by Loral and Boeing and others to help their rockets have a better guidance system and upgrade the rest of their military resources. It has bothered me since the first thread I had someone on FR post for me (I didn't know how but learned rapidly) of why the American people were not more upset at the US/China relationship. That thread was Senator Jim Inhofe's speech on Theft of Nuclear Secrets which he gave on the floor of the United States Senate. He never did get his answers nor did many Americans demand the truth! I have yet to figure Why NOT? Instead of answers the people of NY elected Ms. Clinton to the Senate and now the DemocRATs have put her on the Senate Armed Services Committee which I find nauseating at best! My mini rant!
