The lynching of Estrada

Posted on 02/07/2003 6:31:01 AM PST by ShelleyAa

For all their sanctimonious calls for diversity, one might actually think many Senate Democrats desire our nation to be a nation diverse of thought and people; they do not. Simply put, their words don’t match their actions. Enter one Miguel Estrada, a Hispanic who came to America as a teenager from Honduras speaking virtually no English, to the recent May 2001 “unanimous well-qualified” highest possible American Bar Association rated nominee.

Estrada is a Columbia University and Harvard Law School honors graduate with impressive lawyer’s resume, who has argued 15 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, worked as a federal prosecutor, Assistant U.S. Solicitor General, and Supreme Court law clerk. As a nominee to the judgeship on the D.C. Circuit he would be the first Hispanic to serve in that capacity. Why then are Senate Democrats threatening to filibuster his nomination?

In order to disqualify Estrada, a character assassination will be required. Sadly, too many are more than willing to provide expertise in that area. What is Miguel Estrada’s crime? For Democrats any reason will do; which leads one to conclude he is thought to be of the conservative diversity. Easily, one understands Democrat’s distaste for someone thought to be outside their philosophy, harder to understand, how adamantly their work in destroying another’s character.

What is it called when one group of people are excluded at the expense of another? Today, Democrat’s actions and words prove they no longer hold the banner for diversity. We as a nation must become informed to why they act with prejudice against this man and which special interest groups are pushing the discrimination.

As we enter the 21st Century, Americans must require their legislator to no longer provide public lynching, regardless if the nominee falls outside Democrat’s liberal, judicial ideological criterion.

I would guess that the real Dem goal is intimidate any conservative to want a high judicial appointment. No matter how decent and innocent your life is, it can be twisted and perverted to your detrement and that of your family.

The DEMONcrats do belive in diversity. They believe in:

LIBERAL WHITES
LIBERAL BLACKS
LIBERAL BROWNS
As long as it has liberal in front of it, they believe in it.

A conservative black or hispanic is singled out for even worse treatment than a conservative white. Since they can not use the race card on the minority candidate they have to destroy him in his personal life.

DEMONcrats on the Judicary Committie = pond scum.

This is probably why I'll never run for office.

I think that some folks should show up at the "hearings" with dirty laundry lists of all the Dems - whenever a Dem poses a slanted question, it shouldn't be too hard to bring up a specific about them that not only compares, but is much worse. It would be sweet to see/hear them howl about the underhandedness of it (while refusing to ask any more questions for fear of too much personal truth coming out).
Until they start getting hit back, they will be only too willing to continue their immoral flailing at good people...

I hope all those posters who thought a good strategy was to LAUGH at the democrats have seen the light
You only laugh at those who aren't a threat
The democrats are NOT going to roll over and they and their supporters have become increasing nasty the last several months since the election

Dear President Bush,
With the Surpeme Court session getting ready to close, it may well be time for perhaps the most important domestic decision of your presidency: the appointment of a Supreme Court Justice(s). The main reason why I supported you in 2000 and why I wanted Daschle out of power in 02 (and 04) has to do with the courts. I want America courts to interpret law, not write law. During your presidential campaign you said Thomas and Scalia were your two model justices. Those are excellent models. The High Court needs more like them. Clarence Thomas recently said to students that the tough cases were when what he wanted to do was different from what the law said. And he goes by the law. This should be a model philosophy for our justices. Your father, President Bush lost his reelection campaign for 3 main reasosn, as far as I can see. 1. he broke the no new taxes pledge 2. David Souter 3. Clinton convinced people we were in a Bush recession (which we had already come out of by the time Clinton was getting sworn in)

I urge you to learn from all three of these: 1. on taxes, you're doing great. Awesome job on the tax cut. 2. good job so far on judicial appointments. I want to see more of a fight for Estrada, Owen, and Pickering, but I commend you on your nominations. 3. by staying engaged in the economic debate you'll serve yourself well

I have been thoroughly impressed with your handling of al Queida, Iraq, and terrorism. You have inspired confidence and have shown great leadership.

But I want to remind you that your Supreme Court pick(s) will be with us LONG after you have departed office. I urge you to avoid the tempation to find a "compromise" pick. Go for a Scalia or Thomas. Don't go for an O'Connor or Kennedy. To be specific, get someone who is pro-life. Roe v Wade is one of the worst court decisions I know of, and it's the perfect example of unrestrained judicial power.

I know the temptation will be tremendous on you to nominate a moderate. But remember who your true supporters are. I am not a important leader or politician. I am "simply" a citizen who has been an enthusiatic supporter of you. I am willing to accept compromise in many areas of government but I will watch your Court nomiantions extremely closely. What the Senate Dems are doing right now is disgusting, but as the President you have the bully pulpit to stop it. Democrats will back down if you turn up serious heat on them.

Moreover, I think public opinion is shifting towards the pro-life position. Dems will want you to nominate a moderate, but almost all will vote against you anyways. Pro-choice Repubs will likely still vote for you if you nominate a Scalia, after all, you campaigned on it. So Mr. President, I urge you to stick with your campaign statements and nominate justices who believe in judicial restraint, like Scalia and Thomas.

Happy Memorial Day and may God bless you and your family.
