Charlton Heston Speaks Out On Clooney's Cruel Alzheimer's Joke
Gallant Alzheimer's victim Charlton Heston is refusing to react in anger to George Clooney's joke about is tragic medical condition.
"I don't know the man - never met him, never even spoken to him," the 78-year-old silver screen legend told The ENQUIRER in an exclusive interview. "But I feel sorry for George Clooney - one day he may get Alzheimer's disease.
"I served my country in World War II. I survived that - I guess I can survive some bad words from this fellow."
Clooney ignited a firestorm of fury while accepting a Special Filmmaking Achievement Award from the National Board of Review in New Tork by telling the audience: "Charlton Heston announced again today that he is suffering from Alzheimer's."
And despite the hurt he caused, former "ER" star was unrepentant.
"I don't care," he said defiantly. "Charlton Heston is head of the National Rifle Assiciation - he deserves whatever anyone says about him."
Heston has often been the focus of controversy over his leadership of the NRA, but he was universally praised for his courage last August when he went public with the admission that he was suffering from the incurable - and fatal - disease that has also stricken former actor and President Ronald Reagan.
"I've still got a busy life going," Heston said. "I have no problem remembering things or being aware of things at all."
But if Heston was inclined to forgive Clooney's callous mockery, many others were not so forgiving.
"We've been inundated with e-mails from people across the country expressing outrage," Elizabeth Wilson, of the Alzheimer's Association, told The ENQUIRER.
"It was a totally insensitive joke at the expense of a man who had the courage to come forward, reveal that he had been disgnosed with this tragic disease - and by doing so gave hope to others that attention would be focused on it and perhaps hasten a cure
"It was particularly hurtful to the four million Americans who suffer from Alzheimer's and the 18 million more who love and care for them."

As I recall from watching the TV footage, Lott leaned over and said it to Strom, who was seated at the time.
And even if he said it in a prepared speech, it doesn't change the fact that his treatment is quite different from what Clooney has recieved.
"Are you living on planet earth?"
And that was unnecessary.

George Cooney for all his family-derived celebrity and millions is a very small man indeed.
An American patriot like Charlton Heston knows the score -- Cooney is nothing but one more cowardly un-American Hollywood suck-up.

When asked about this a few weeks ago he said: "Apparently class isn't inherited in his family" (OUCH!!!) as his whoever---Aunt,Grandma,Babysitter, whatever---was Rosemary Clooney, who Charlton Heston knew personally, loved and respected. You'll take that smarmy comment to your grave georgy.

Rosemary was his aunt. His father is Nick Clooney, who introduces the movies on AMC.He seems affable enough.

I'm sure I've seen Nick Clooney interviewed, and his views are as stupid as his son's.

As anyone who is suffering from this awful disease or who has family afflicted with it knows, Alzheimer's is nothing to laugh about!
I and my family watched helplessly as my dad went from super-intelligent engineer to a near-vegitative state. Clooney should thank God that he has never had family go through this.
And by the way, I'm a life member of the NRA and a member of the Armed Females of America as well. If that earns me Clooney's disdain, so be it. After all, one is judged not only by his/her friends, but also by his/her enemies.
Clooney is a pig!

Oh I remember... remember when Princess Diana was killed and left lemmings immediately pounced on "paparazzi" as the one and only true blame for her death? Clooney & Son led the way.

Strom Thurmond was truly one of the most valuable fighters for American principles over the past two generations. It is to a large extent because of Thurmond, that the Republican party regained its position of strength, when it seemed doomed to be in a permanent minority position; and that it has since fought for the right sort of Federal Judiciary. But I am just using your seeming indifference to that as an excuse to post on the actual subject of this thread.
The Clooney family come from up the Ohio river from Cincinnati, in Maysville, Kentucky. I do not think that Maysville is the sort of town whose kin favor restricting the traditional American right and responsibility to have and become proficient with firearms. Clooney is a disgrace to his background--an obvious fool, taken in by the glitter of the Leftists in Hollywood. Thus he insults one of the few out there who still do have any genuine class. How pathetic!

Thanks. Insanity runs in families. Looks like aunt and nephew were hit by it this time. Really . . . Didn't Rosemary's problems first manifest themselves in her rude potshots at her audiences?

While you are assigning blame let's not forget the complacent American public who largely wanted to give Clinton a pass on everything. Excluding of course the small minority that hangs out here on Free Republic. I am not saying that the duplicitous media doesn't deserve the calumny we heap upon them here, but a great number of Americans were as equally duplicitous.

Judging ones acting skills, as you so obviously point out, is quite subjective. Your view is just that ... your view. My view is that Mr. Heston is a giant of an actor when stacked up to the likes of Mr. Clooney. Even if Clooney was a real giant of a Vampire killer.

Clooney played a womanizing, philandering dirtbag pretty well on ER.
