PORTLAND - Multnomah County Commissioners joined their counterparts in Corvallis and Eugene on Thursday, declaring their opposition to pre-emptive military action against Iraq.
Portland's City councilors refused to pass a similar measure last week, with dissenters saying they wanted to focus instead on direct city business.
The resolution does not carry the weight of law, but supporters believe it makes an important statement.
Commissioners say the county will be affected financially by the decision to wage war.
The county receives about one fifth of its one billion-dollar budget from the federal government, money that could be diverted if there is a war.
Across the country, about 50 local governments have officially opposed the war.

I held off posting this, in the hope I could find a recorded vote, but it has not yet been posted on the county web site.
My guess is that this passed 4-1, with only Lonnie Roberts opposing it, but this is purely a guess based on past performance.

I suppose it's fruitless to ask the terrorists, the next time they take a run at this country, in this country, that they go after useful idiots first. Luckily these morons aren't responsible for our foreign policy.

County commissioners, school board members, city councilmen... when good folks won't run, dumbasses will fill the void. And they are real hard to dislodge.

"The county receives about one fifth of its one billion-dollar budget from the federal government" It is time to review (meaning stop) our money going to areas that openly do not support US policy.

Maybe these folks could get togeather with the Berkley city council and vote Iraq a wmd free zone. That would fix everything. What a bunch of mindless idiots.
I'm sure it makes the voters in Multnomah county proud.
To: B Knotts
So they don't oppose the war for moral reasons just financial ones.
supporters believe it makes an important statement
The only statement it made, was that the county is run by a bunch of nuts.

These are the same fools that released 100+ from the county jail Weds. cause they lost an election to raise taxes. They say that a dog owner that gets impatient with his dog when the dog barks for territorial reasons doesn't have a grasp of reality, because it's a dog's nature to bark for territorial reasons.
Perhaps an electorate that elects this kind of nit wit deserves to have criminals released into their neighborhoods. I just hope the folks in outlying towns and counties have the sense to arm themselves.

Groups of geopolitical morons can be found many places in the nation -- sometimes in the streets, somestimes as here in legislative assemblies. By Wednesday of nest week (when Secretary Powell delivers his information to the UN), or certainly within the next two months (when the 82nd Airborne goes into Iraq and finds weapons of mass death), the members of this County Council will be revealed to all as the morons they are. I only hope the people of this County follow up promptly by cashiering these fools from public office. I talk about the nature of the idiocy of these people in my latest column on UPI.

THAT IS THE PROBLEM. It DOES make the people of Multnomah County proud.

Thanks for the ping!
You're right...it was 4 to 1. I heard the vote on the radio, and it was a very forceful, male voice that said, "NO!". Seeing the pic you posted, I don't think it was one of those stupid, bubble-headed, liberal women.
These fools are certainly full of their own self-importance.

Throughout history, social outcasts, rebels, ner' do wells, misfits, criminals and just plain cantankerous folks have fled civilization until natural barriers stop them. In this country the pacific ocean has performed admirably, and predictably in time honored tradition.
