How do you figure? Define 'pissed away'... because, it seems to me that Bush is thinking ahead - if we dont' stop the epidemic there NOW, we will have our own critical epidemic HERE because of it...

Money well spent. This we can agree. I hope education is included too. Another liberal talking point pulled from under their feet!

<> My understanding is that it was brought here from Africa to begin with. You are 100% correct -- we didn't start the thing but it will reach us anyway if we don't take steps. Besides, we don't want Africa to be "helped" by the Islamofascists who will indoctrinate their hate of the USA. We don't want Africa to become another Middle East.

Sorry I don't shoot up and im not gay and to my chagrin am not a serial womanizer. I don't ever see myself getting aids and those that do, with the exceptions of those who were born with it or got transfusions brought it on themselves. If AIDs doesn't knock down the African population famine or some other mechanism will( Kenya Nairobi and a few others are doing okay).

Jesse Helms would be for it, if he were still in the Senate. If Jesse Helms is for it, I have no problem with it.

I agree with you! Believe that Senator Bill Frist, M.D., who has gone to Africa and has seen how devastating this disease is to so many people that have gotten AIDs in Africa through no fault of their own. This epidemic could go around the world and strike more than the gay community.

You've got to be kidding!!! Do you really think this money will be spent wisely or do anything to prevent the spread of AIDS? If Bush wants to throw away vast sums of money, let him reach into his own pockets. I wonder when Bush is going to be honest and announce he's decided to become a Democrat.

PISSED AWAY, Indeed! The epidemic is spreading because the people are uninformed and uneducated. It's not our job to "change" them. Let there governments pay for it. I'm sick of being the world's welfare system. NO NO NO to world government and socialism.

Short of a cure or vaccine, the epidemic won't be stopped until Africans stop being sexually promiscuous. Condoms won't help either, just slow the progress of the epidemic. Only Uganda, with its stress on abstinence until marriage, has had significant success in reducing the rate of new AIDs cases. Of course, Bush knows all of this. He's putting up the money to help those who were not so smart and got the virus (including children). But he has no illusions about stopping the spread of the virus. He's just waiting for common sense to prevail. He knows if you speak common sense now, you'll be attacked. So we'll be compassionate, and save common sense for another day.

Spoken like a true liberal. Why is rampant sexual promiscuity in Africa OUR problem? Don't want it here? Then tighten up our borders.

Now, let's here all the neo-con lapdogs yip about how Bush caught his enemy's "off-guard". Yeah, because he's taken their position.

Unless those with AIDS are brought here to have sex or pass the disease on in some other manner I don't see how their "epidemic" will become ours.
Could you explain yourself a bit further. I simply don't see how you get from A to B.
Secondly, where is the Constitutional authorization for this expenditure?
Thirdly, what "bang for the buck" are we getting for all of this "Aid for AIDS"? Where, or what, is the return on the investment?

Lack of education is the reason AIDS is at epidemic levels in Africa. The factors in place in Africa are simply not present here in America. Regardless of what happens in Africa there will be no epidemic here.

Now how exactly is this AIDS money gonna slow the spread of the disease? The people are still going to be infected no matter how much drugs are pumped into them. They will still be carriers and still be able to spread the disease. This money does NOTHING to protect americans. NOTHING.

Had Clinton announced this, there would be howls of protest and rightfully so.

Back when it seemed principles mattered, I used to say that Bill and Hillary Clinton could drive up to a bank in full daylight in the presidential limo, walk into a bank with submachine guns, and come out dragging garbage bags full of money...and get away with it in the eyes of the Clintonites.

It's clear Bush could do the same thing and the Bushbots would rationalize it away.

But why stop with AIDS? How about 10 billion dollars to wipe out malaria, which still, I believe, kills more people than AIDS. And 5 billion for river blindness, 29 billion for sleeping sickness...then there is the malnutrition.

I think all you Bushbots who want the USA to spend my money on every social program under the sun would do well to put your money where your mouths are, dig out your wallets, and start sending big checks to combat all these programs, if you think they are so vital.

AIDS is a behavioral "disease". I have been told by some pretty sharp folk in the medical profession that if you are a heterosexual that is NOT promiscuous, and do not use drugs your chance of getting aids is practically NIL.
