I'm the one who said something [about Sean Hannity] and I am no disruptor
Sean Hannity's Radio Show | VaBthang4

Posted on 01/21/2003 1:35:31 PM PST by VaBthang4

I just heard Sean complain that he is getting attacked by FReepers and implied that it is affecting his support of the site.

I havent seen any attacks on Sean but I did post my opinion that Sean was gonna hang himself with the Trent Lott issue.

And in the end...I was correct.

Lott is gone...like he should be...I like Sean but he got out ahead of the curve on the Lott issue and found himself basically alone.

We all know what was behind the Lott assault and the bias of the Liberal media and the hypocrisy of the Democrats on racial issues but Sean's case appeared to be full fledged support for Trent Lott. Something which most Conservatives did not do...with or without the Thurmond remarks.

Dont whine Sean...next time be on the correct side of the issue.

Good conservative ideas are not discerned by being able to withstand the most viscious attack by other conservatives.

Like heck they aren't. Every time I post my opinion here, I have to defend it. If I make the tiniest factual mistake, someone spots it and points it out to me. If I don't know all the facts, someone will provide them to prove me wrong. As a result, the average freeper is far better at articulating and factually supporting their opinion than the vast majority of people in media. The talking heads don't like dipping their toes in the water here because the aquatic life snaps back, something they are not used to in their controlled media environments where they can cut off callers at will or simply ignore what they don't care to write or report about.

You are assuming that there lies somewhere a repository of conservative truth. If one deviates from you or others consdier conservative orthodoxy, you are drawn and quartered.

I take it you are unwilling to let your opinions be tested in the FR gauntlet. Trust me, if they don't survive, they were weak, and if they make it through, what you learn in the process will make your opinions much stronger.

Liberalism has prevailed because they have not adopted a policy of eating their own. Conservatives could learn a thing or two from them.

Yeah, the Dems now control the White House, Congress and the Supreme Court because of their lock-step approach. Oops, they haven't. Exactly what are you getting at here? The reason conservatism appeals to so many Americans is that it is an intellectual as opposed to an emotional politic. And intellectualism calls for debate. Some folks get carried away, but that's life here. The plusses are much greater than that particular negative.

I find it laughable that someone or anyone thinks that they are the fountain of conservative orthodoxy.

Ummm....that is most of FR. Where have you been? Have you not seen the thousands of, "Boycott this or you are not a conservative" threads?

Humans are emotional beings. Hannity is no exception to that. It doesn't kill those of us who value his input and support to remind ourselves to be civil in our criticism. He is not our enemy. He fights the good fight for us everyday. WE are going to disagree with HIM and vice versa, but we are all on the same side for the most part. We should act like it.

You are assuming that the flamed party goes away from the process adopting the views of the prevailing party. I fail to see that this is the case. When I have been flamed, I don't walk away agreeing with the battle-tested approach. That's because I don't walk in lock-step with the parties that flame me. You are reaching dirtboy!

Sorry, but I have learned quite a bit in the flame wars I have been engaged in, as well as the more calm debates. Anyone who is unwilling to defend their opinion against the opposition here will be unable to properly defend their opinion out in the real world, where libs are even more adept at the sucker punch and the time-honored propaganda techniques.

Sean needs to grow a thicker skin...

I agree. Sean is terrific, both on radio and TV, and gets lotsa support of FR. But hey, if you haven't been flamed, you're not really getting all you can out of FR.

Don't be such a maroon. If I don't like someone on TV or radio I don't watch or listen to them. I don't run to Dr. Laura threads and say that I can't stand her nasally tone and abrupt nature, I just don't listen to her.

Now, elected and appointed government people have always been fair game and will continue to be.

What's so difficult to understand about that?

Remember when Rush was in a toddler type squabble with FR?

Har har har.

That'll be the day ...

Not only that, but, like you said, you can shut the media types out. But elected officials and bureaucrats can pass laws and enforce them in a way that dramatically affects your life. So it is proper to hold them to a high level of scrutiny.

Well Howdy Mike!

You will love it here. Actually, you will probably become addicted just like the rest of us.

You have been warned :-)

Hannity threatened to pull an opus last fall during his book tour, until someone called and reminded him that a lot of freepers were buying and plugging his book. He's an affable enough guy but he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer by any stretch of the imagination. He regularly talks about how much time he puts into show prep but it seems as though he regurgitates what Limbaugh does, lately. He gets sloppy and lazy at times and he needs to grow a thicker skin.

Sean Hannity, and any other conservative who is on the verge of becoming a prima donna, needs FR to keep him humble.

Ditto, I just signed up due to Sean's statements and the link on his site. Sean has a heart as big as Texas and if people say bad things about him they should be ashamed of themselves.

Welcome to FR. Things don't work that way here.

This site has many different brands of conservatives. Social conservatives, religious conservatives, social conservatives, Birchers, isolationists. I fail to see that anyone has made me drop the orientation that fuels my conservatism through a flame war. In point of fact, it tends to reinforce my own presuppositions. You are assuming that debate results in persuasion leading to refinement in a position. I find that most flame wars result in deeper entrenchment.

Second, many arguments are shot down not because they are weak but because another party engages in fallacious reasoning, ad hominem attack or engages in plan of attrition. That does not result in discerning the best approach on anything.

I find that if you feel that way, you're probably more prone to flame wars than the average FR bear, because you're unwilling to consider the points the other side is making.

In fact, I don't think Rush or Sean or any other talk show host gives a rip if someone is whining about their approach on an issue. In fact, I think they probably dig it because that means they've got a committed listener.

BTW, I think alot of folks post contrarian views on FR just to see what kind of flame war ensues. If someone flames me, I just say they're full of it. It hrdly ever changes my mind about squat.

The Limbaugh thing was over a year ago. It did NOT hurt FR at all.

THIS is so funny ... Rush ruffles your dainty little tail feathers when he wants to - whereupon you dance the jig on his commnd!

Too funny!

(If the DNC and all THEIR operatives don't phase him - do you think a few disgruntled fr-types are going to cause him worry!? Har har har!)

I didn't imply it had anything to do with recent remarks. My response was to the comment made by republicman about Sean being our friend. Anyway since when can friends not disagree?
