I'm the one who said something [about Sean Hannity] and I am no disruptor
Sean Hannity's Radio Show | VaBthang4

Posted on 01/21/2003 1:35:31 PM PST by VaBthang4

I just heard Sean complain that he is getting attacked by FReepers and implied that it is affecting his support of the site.

I havent seen any attacks on Sean but I did post my opinion that Sean was gonna hang himself with the Trent Lott issue.

And in the end...I was correct.

Lott is gone...like he should be...I like Sean but he got out ahead of the curve on the Lott issue and found himself basically alone.

We all know what was behind the Lott assault and the bias of the Liberal media and the hypocrisy of the Democrats on racial issues but Sean's case appeared to be full fledged support for Trent Lott. Something which most Conservatives did not do...with or without the Thurmond remarks.

Dont whine Sean...next time be on the correct side of the issue.

Dear Cecil:

Could you please provide detailed definitions of the terms "drawn and quartered" and "keelhauling"? The former conjures up images of having cartoons drawn on one's body before being pelted with pocket change. The latter could refer to being bound to the underside of a ship, boat, barge, whatever. My daughter's Disney movie (Peter Pan) refers to both--didn't they think kids would eventually have access to the Internet? --Ted Jankowski, via the Internet

Dear Ted:

We'd all better brush up on this stuff--if they're bringing back the chain gang, can keelhauling be far behind? Not that the latter is a realistic possibility if they nab you for jaywalking in Omaha. Keelhauling was meted out to sailors for minor infractions at sea. Typically the victim was tied to a rope looped beneath the vessel, thrown overboard, and then dragged under the keel and up the other side. Since the keel was usually encrusted with barnacles and other crud the guy's hide would be scraped raw and he'd think twice about doing whatever it was he'd gotten keelhauled for again. Sometimes they heaped chains and such on him to add injury to insult.

Keelhauling crops up in your Hollywood pirate's conversation about as often as shiver me timbers, but as far as I can tell it was officially enacted as a punishment only by the Dutch. The earliest official mention of keelhauling seems to be a Dutch ordinance of 1560 and the practice wasn't formally abolished until 1853. If you ever play shuffleboard on a Dutch cruise ship, my advice is: don't cheat.

Drawing and quartering is another punishment mentioned in kids' movies only because nobody realizes what's involved. The statutory punishment for treason in England from 1283 to 1867, D&Q was a multimedia form of execution. First the prisoner was drawn to the place of execution on a hurdle, a type of sledge. (Originally he was merely dragged behind a horse.) Then he was hanged. Cut down while still alive, he was disembowelled and his entrails burned before his eyes. (Some references, such as the Encyclopedia Britannica, say this step, and not dragging behind a horse, is what is meant by "drawn," but actual sentences of execution don't support this view.)

Finally the condemned was beheaded and his body cut into quarters, one arm or leg to a quarter. How exactly the quartering was to be accomplished was not always specified, but on at least some occasions horses were hitched to each of the victim's limbs and spurred in four directions. An assistant with a sword or cleaver was sometimes assigned to make a starter cut and ease the strain on the animals. The remains were often put on display as a warning to others.

Constructive criticism is valuable. But we need to be careful. Sean is INCREDIBLY valuable to us as well as conservatism in general.

Criticism cuts both way too. If you dish it out you had better be able to take it. My advice: Criticize away but choose your words more carefully next time. Heck, we are all (at least I am) guilty of over-cooking our criticism from time to time. So learn from the reactions of people who matter and make the necessary adjustments. What Sean thinks should matter to you.

They are hitting all conservative talk shows.

Heck, one of them called Ronn Owens on KGO this morning! Ronn voted Demo in 2000 (the fool!), but supports the President on terror and defense, and has been vocal in support of action against Iraq. So, this idjit calls, says that he, the caller, can't keep up with "the speed of your [Ronn's] speediness" (coffee), and then launches into his seminar call, peppering his call with the disdainful "Sir" that Ed/Ned/whoever has used whenever he calls Sean. Good grief, Charlie Brown! They're out there and they're stoopid!

Are you in the business of trashing someone simply because you don't agree with him 100% of the time? I find Rush irritating as h#ll sometimes, but I would never make a point of trashing him on this site.

Hannity's idea of debate is to phrase a run on sentence and just when the person's eyes begin to glaze he shrugs his eyebrows as if to say, "What say you?"

Agree wholeheartedly. That was a good call, Doug. One of these days, I'm gonna call in. :-)

Disagreeing on an issue or an approach is one thing. Throwing mud and personal attacks is another. Let's not forget who the Bad Guys are.

I think the framers had D&Q in mind when they banned Cruel and Unusual punishment! At least that's what Justice Scalia thinks.

I do not always agree with any talk show host but I usually listen to Sean Hannity when I am in my car. I also often watch Hannity and Colmes.

Now I did not see the attack but I note that it is possible to disagree with people on issues without being disagreeable.

I agree! : )

My radio station delays the last hour, darn it.

Apparently you ARE a disrupter. Just look at the number of posts on this thread alone, not to mention the others!

Just kidding!

Ok, this is hysterical. Many around here could spend all day ridiculing those that they claim worship "Hollweird stars" but then do the EXACT SAME THING when it comes to Rush or Sean Hannity. They are not so special (whether is be Ozzy, Rush, Mr. Ed) that they should get special treatment. And if you want to give it to one, give it to them all.
