Take your Lithium, Scott.

Last night Scott Ritter appeared on the Greta Van Susteren's show on Fox. She hit him with a quote that he made a decade ago. It seems his opinions on Iraq have changed since then. Scott exploded with a diatribe that was almost unintelligible. Obviously Greta had hit a hot button. He then went on to spit venom at Greta's two other guests. Greta had to shut him up twice. As I watched this character, I formed an opinion about him that had not occurred to me before. This guy is bipolar. Of course I am not a shrink (but I play one on the internet), but I do have a bipolar family member, so I have observed some characteristic behavior. Ritter's explosive behavior, and his changing opinions remind me of a manic depressive.

Don't know about the shrink aspect, but if he's getting shots like this from a lib like Greta then he needs to take a hint and quit.

and if scott ritter suddenly changed his mind again about iraq, and started to say that iraq is witholding WMD's, he'd be a great, intelligent guy, heh?

I saw some of that when he was talking over the General when he suggested the Ritter should be in the tank going into Iraq with no ABC protection gear on.

The General looked like he wanted to slap him.

Sure, Ritter is no sissy, but don't you think the prospect of war is worth a little spit? Ritter makes factual arguments and doesn't take any sh...ugar from anyone. So what? Check his facts. The empty warheads in a box that has been sealed since 1986 is a different matter from a cache of chemical weapons - even Ritter acknowledged that.

Buchanan also makes the point that Turkey is considering withdrawing their assistance; Israel wants umpteen billions in aid...why aren't they afraid of Hussein?

If you disagree with Ritter, fine, I can respect that, but you have to respect a man like Ritter who stands up for what he believes. And, if you listen to him you might notice he argues with facts.

Not a psychiatrist, but like you have watched bipolar disorder in action. From your description, it seems all too familiar to me. Of course, I tend to think I see it in anyone who is "not quite right." You've heard of medical-student syndrome? Well, I have bipolar-family-member syndrome. ;)

If he did it would prove the bipolar point.

And you recognize his facts...just how?

Why would anyone accept this guy to speak to any forum, or on any TV or radio program, without first running a disclaimer identifying him as a paid, PR flack for the Iraqi government?

Not sure about bipolar, but Scott Ritter is definitely wrong about Iraq. They are withholding and hiding for sure, IMHO.

Yes, OK, but understand that Pat also suffers from Obsessive Narcissistic Syndrome, I believe...

Check his facts.

The only fact I needed to check is his flip-flop from 1998 to 2002 AFTER he was financed by a Saddam sympathizer to make a film in Iraq.

I'm not a psychiatrist, but I know what you're talking about. I think though, he's just a bitter man now because I believe he truly had (and has) his heart in the right place. He's since become bitter though because of all the criticism he's recieved (which I don't think he expected), especially the criticism of his patriotism, which I think he finds the most offensive of all. I think he sees himself as very patriotic because, in his mind, it was (and is) the "patriotic duty" to treat the weapons inspections "fairly and honestly", without any "pre-conceived notions" or "using it as a mere excuse for war". (all quotes of his, if memory serves)

In the end though, sadly, his good intentions were twisted and used by those he probably grew feelings for (those Iraqis and Iraqi sympathizers) during his work in Iraq, and now he finds himself torn between that which he knows is right in his heart (that Iraq is amassing a weapons program) and that which he WANTS to be right (which is that those in the Iraqi military that he consorted with and grew friendly with are really telling the truth).

Basically he's a man torn, and we're all witnessing, as a nation, his psychological breakdown.
