Show your support, Have your e-mail or snail mail letter of support and appreciation HAND DELIVERED to a Service member.
>
Here soon, there will be more deployments @ Ft Hood. This doesn't break OPSEC concerns due to the media reporting it everywhere, although I cannot get into the specific name of the division or the battalion that we are supporting just yet. When we can, we will let you know.
One of things I and a few other folks here at Fort Hood will be doing is setting these soldiers up with little care packages for the bus / airplane ride out when they leave.(we are projecting a minimum 200-500 care packages) One of the things we want to include is letters of thanks and appreciation from people whom support our military and want them to know it.
We will be printing out all of these letters and including them into the care packages. And since no one can send letters "to any soldier" without including a specific name due to the anthrax situation that occurred, and safety reasons, we can and will be hand delivering them to soldiers. We plan to do this even after they leave. (thru Platoon Sgt's, 1SG's, etc etc. that we have as contacts) The only downfall would be we are only able to support maybe 2 battalions at this point, and that may just be it. If there is an overwhelming response, I will distribute letters to other Family Readiness Groups thru Army Community Service here on Ft Hood so they can include them with-in their own care packages to the troops they support.
It's easy, all we are asking is this;
*If you would like a service member to know how much they are appreciated, and how much of what they are doing for America is a admirable thing. (etc etc) Write them a letter and let them know. (We welcome long letters if your worried about length, + remember these letters will most likely be read on the bus, or on the plane ride out.)
*If you know any school teachers, churches etc that would like to participate, Please PLEASE give them our address or email soon.
*You do not have to give your address in your letter or even your last name. But if you would like, you may. We will encourage soldiers to write back if they wish, but ultimately it is up to them.
*All emails or letters posted to this thread will be printed out and put into the care packages along with any snail mail letters received. If time and supplies permit, we may even make duplicate copies of every letter so more than one service member can enjoy your letter.
*We will accept snail mail letters, however they must have a return address on the envelope in order for us to accept them. But your letter will be given to the soldier without your address or full name given, unless you actually list it in the letter.

A BIG thank you to everyone in advance.

Yes, I believe Some of the Freepers in the canteen may be (or already?) put together something similar to this. I was very busy last night and didn't get a chance to visit the canteen like I should have, but plan on visiting today to see what they are up to. I highly recommend to anyone that wants to support our troops to give them a visit today as well.
To: KineticKitty
Also, you are more than welcome to post your "letter" to this thread if you like. We can and will be copy/pasting them off of here as well.

Hi K, Have you had the opportunity to visit Freerepublic's USO canteen? Please stop in and visit.
The link above will take you to Wednesday's thread about the Valentines day project and here is a link for today's thread.
We have contacts for several different troops and will be letting folks know how they can participate. Stop in and share your information, too. Thanks.

Thank you Snippy, I am still exploring the canteen today. I offered our address here at Fort Hood to the canteen as well for all the great work you guys are doing over there.
Please let me know if you folks need anymore help. I see that the canteen already has a similar program they've already started to put into place. I am more than glad to offer what time I have to the canteen as well. But I will definitely keep exploring and see what else the canteen is offering. Thanks again.

Dear American heroes, You show the utmost bravery and self-sacrifice that is the best in humanity. Even in this day and age when so many Americans take for granted the possibilities and pursuit of happiness that came from people such as yourselves through our nation's history and the feeling that life goes on here in the United States-it will be because of you that the United States continues to offer up the best in this world and maintain or way of life. I continue to be amazed at how fine our military is in this day with people like yourselves that volunteer to serve and keep our country and, for that matter, the world safe. It is a sad and troublesome time in this world and the tyrants and evil people are attempting to make the world and its future suffer with their controlling things through their murder and mayhem, but it is because of you that it can and will be stopped. God bless you all and know that you are loved and respected and you give so much for people to live with the freedoms we have and will continue to have because of you. Thank you all and stay safe and let them know they are not going to spread their suffering and rule throughout the world. All the best. Miranda
