Thes Tag Lines Are Driving Me Crazy (VAnity)
Posted on 01/09/2003 5:56:00 AM PST by Puddleglum
The new "taglines" after people's usernames are really distracting to me. Is it the intense pressure to think up something too cute? Is it the odd little eye-pulling font that makes it less comfortable to read the article? I can't say for sure. It just doesn't seem to detract from the message board format, at least for me. Does anyone else think so? I love FR but find this new tagline thing a little annoying. Maybe Jim could give us the option to view or not view taglines as part of our user preferences.

Hey, I agree with you. It's starting to look like Democratic Underground over here.

It just doesn't seem to detract from the message board format, at least for me. I believe you meant that it does detract from the format.

Some tag lines remind me of Charlies Tuna's obsession to have his distinctiveness recognized - right down to the cigarette holder, beret and all.
But hey, I buy store-brand tuna anyway - more dolphin per can.

OK... clue me in. I'm assuming you're referring to post #194.
Tagebuch is German for "diary" ("daybook"; tag = "day"). It was a little bilingual wordplay.

PS - If you love the tags lines, more power to you! As they never say at DU, it's a free country. I just asked about a user preferences option to view or not view them. I think site design is a worthy topic at a site I enjoy being a member of. If the topic is so inconsequential why get so het up? Or why did some of y'all lobby so strong for the taglines to return?
I think the strong emotions prove it is a worthwhile topic, if not exactly an earth-shattering one. I've enjoyed many laughs, too, and hope we can all kid good-naturedly and retain the sense of humor and goodwill that infuriates liberals and makes it fun to be on the right side of political arguments.
Peace out, play fair, try not to sling too much schoolyard vitriol and I will too.

Knock off the bilingual stuff. This is a family website.
