The hold IS from home state senators only, but I think it has a half life to it. Their may be a differential in effect as to whether or not the hold is placed by a senator from the majority party, but I am not sure. If the majority is willing to ignore the hold after it expires, then it has no effect. But it carries a lot of weight. But I could be wrong. I am just communicating my vague recollection of the process.

No surprise, unfortunately. Once a turncoat always a turncoat. Chickensh*t traitors like trent lott may have done more harm to this nation than BillyBoy himself.

Says a lot about those too blind to see, who wanted the GOP to mindlessly follow the Lott into oblivion.

What! I hope you're not suggesting that they could be wrong?

This is President Bush saying "in your face" to Pat Leahy.

"Hillary's b*lls won't be in nearly as good a shape by 2004."

Hilly keeps up her PMS-y whining, she'll find out why the democrats' 1988 Great Female Hope, Ma Richards, is in obscure retirement, sucking down those morning gins again.

I have never heard it said better.

According to a statement by Leahy:HERE

Restoring Steadiness to the Judicial Confirmation Process
By Sen. Patrick Leahy
Special to Roll Call Daily
September 25, 2002

He stated:

We have restored steadiness and openness to the hearing and confirmation process. We have ended the era of secret holds. And we have reversed the trends of the last six years of lengthening court vacancy lists and unexplained lengthy waits for hearings and votes -- as long as four years -- that plagued President Bill Clinton's nominees.

Any bets whether the Democrats on the Judicial Committee will now, miraculously, raise the "HOLD" from the dead?

I don't know when the process supposedly ended, but I do know the Barbara Boxer put a hold on Congressman Cox's nomination to the appellate court, and that was that. Maybe that was before Leahy became allegedly kinder and gentler.

That's a scary thought....a kinder, gentler Leahy. Sort of reminds me of the 'friendly Uncle'......ewwwww!

BTW....I did a google search to find that Leahy comment...so SOME of us aren't lazy. (Can you see my halo shining?)

Do you have ANY idea how hard it is to find ANYTHING definitive on the hold process for nominees? Even findlaw was a bust. Either that, or I am just an inadequate 'searcher'.....lol.
