Hannity.com Frontpage:

"Saying he used "a poor choice of words," Trent Lott spoke with Sean on the newsmakers phoneline at length on December 11th in an exclusive interview. This follows a firestorm of criticism by Liberals and Conservatives alike in reaction to comments made by Lott at Sen Strom Thurman's 100th birthday party."

When Lott resigns, Ronnie Musgrove appoints a democrat and then Chafee jumps. Voila!

I have not anywhere called for Lott to resign his Senate seat, nor have most conservatives critical of Lott. He should resign as Senate Majority leader (a position with national implications, thereby my concern as a member of the GOP) and remain in the Senate, and then, in the next scheduled election, let the people of Mississippi decide if they want him to remain their senator (something that is NOT my business).

We should stay on a higher plain than the Demos. Lott screwed up! He should resign as Majority leader, but it is up to the people of Mississippi to remove him from the Senate next election. We have survived losing both Newt and Bob Livingstone. When we are wrong we should admit it take our lumps and rectify the situation. That is what separates us from the left who espouse sanctimony yet enact the opposite.

Sean, Rush, and other visible conservatives are standing up to the left media not because its Trent Lott. No, they are standing up against the radical left wing media because this is just the first salvo to be fired in the leftist agenda's and the media's "witch hunt" to take back Congress for the Liberals.

If nobody stands up now, all of the steps taken in the past 2 years to rid our government of "poltical correctness" will have been erased and "PC" will be firmly entrenched in our lives.

Senate goes back to 50-50, after Dem Gov. Ronnie Musgrove appoints a DEM successor, who doesn't have to run again until 2006. Your are incorrect on that detail. He will be forced to run in 2004. Appointed senator can serve no longer than 2 years. This is why Carnhan was forced to run again in 2002 instead of 2006, the year that Jim Talent will now have to defend that seat.

I would like to see the ones who cast stones have their records searched through for racism against any color of people, including white people.
Maxine Waters is a black version of the KKK herself and both Rev. Jackson and Sharpton have made comments.

My understanding is that there has been nothing in Lott's record to reflect racism in his voting. Actions speak louder than words and he has not acted as a racist.

It is time for conservatives get good at the game of throwing what people said back in their face as well. We should also go back decades if need be.
Democrats won't stop this and consider this an unchallenged playing field and will therefore keep this up until it is used against them back.
Liberal racists open their mouth far more than any accident a conservative ever makes and I think a huge compiling of records by conservatives of liberals would benefit conservatives greatly.

I think by far it is liberals who are racists in their actions and words.

So, even though I do think Lott is weak as a leader, I do not make this the issue for him to step down on, but I do think he should do so in summer sometime.

We need dynamic people, not him anyway. He should later resign the leadership, but NOT give up his senate seat. He does good there, just not good enough to be in leadership IMO!

I know there are known embarrasing racist statements made by Democrats that could be read to the press who ask about Lott that were NOT ACCIDENTS.
Get them out there and go on the attack I say!!!

Lott's goose is cooked. Sooo, The question isn't really whether he should step down as majority leader, but how to do it.

A good way to do it would be to have Lott say "I will step down as majority leader because of the appearance of past racist views, ON THE CONDITION that Senator Byrd steps down from his post for THOSE SAME VIEWS!"

Kills two birds with one stone! If the scum are going to pull you down, might as well drown some of them with you.

What makes this whole thing ridiculous is that Lott is getting a ton of grief for saying that he wished a certain candidate had won an election in 1948, but the candidate in question was able to serve in the U.S. Senate until the age of 100 without ever drawing this kind of attention.

Lott should tell everyone that he'll resign when Ted Kennedy goes to jail for killing Mary Jo Kopechne.

Oh no, please do not encourage him. By the time he is done he would be lauding Kennedy's backstroke.

All due respect but Trent Lott said that had a candidate won a Presidential election then the Nation wouldnt have had the kind of problems it has.

The Candidate later changed his stripes after that election.

It's worth noting that having nobody defend you is better than having Sean Hannity defend you. Nice guy, but I swear he is dumber than a bag of rocks.

By Jove, I think you have it. This would insure Dubya'a election in 2004 because the GOP will escape responsibility for any screwups in the next two years by blaming 'Dashhole'. I love it when a plan comes together.

re: From the "power sharing" deals with the 'Rats to this enormously stupid gaffe, it's time for Lott to go. It's really the perfect time too, considering we just gained the Senate majority back, but the new session hasn't started yet.

Amen, bro!

Even if he doesn't harbor racist views... which his record doesn't appear to show (although making two comments like he did it's hard to believe he doesn't just a little), he at a minimum showed incredibly bad judgement. And at this point in time not only do we need someone with excellent judgement... we need someone with alot more backbone.

I guarantee that there's plenty of real conservatives who haven't forgotten the sellout a few years ago when the mock senate trial was held. Talk about him using really poor judgement... man this guy's got enough of a track record (especially when you take the 'power-sharing' deal he cut).

He needs to do everyone a favor and step down from his leadership position (sic). I think it's fair to say that we're not mad... we're just very very disappointed... again!

Who's to say that he's wrong about that?

"you know I think there is a real undercurrent of people out there who really agree with Lott..."

Nah...there might be a sizable clique of hillbillies in the south that agree with it but they'll vote republican no matter what anyway because of their own prejudices [much the same way many blacks will pull a kneejerk vote for a Democrat].

We dont need to pander one bit to that group. Take them for granted.
