Weakland the Vandal used a shrink up here to "treat" his problem-perps---and the same shrink to reccomend for/against Seminary admission.
My old pastor, an ex-Rector at the North American/Rome, made it quite clear that Rembert's choice of "shrink" was in serious need of therapy, himself--spiritual AND mental.
People who use the confessional generally do NOT need psychiatrists.

Why am I not surprised?? Sigh, indeed. The only good thing about it is that the pastor was obviously trying to get this rotten apple out of the barrel in time. It's tragic that he had to die for it.

It's nice to see a win for the children once in a while.

What Boston needs, is Bishop D'Arcy, as co-adjucator for one year. Then we get him back here in Indiana.
He would restore the trust of the people in the church within a week.

What doesn't seem to have been covered in this story is the responsibility of the psychologists upon whom the Bishops relied for guidance in the problems with the offending (and offensive) priests. The problem here is that the bishops ever relied on psychologists and their ilk in the first place. They are pastors for crying out loud! Have they never heard of grave sin? Is there still such a thing as grave sin or is every wrong an illness?

Sorry but that is incorrect...Bishop O'Brien is NOT looking for an immunity deal. His lawyer said it but the bishop denied that he was seeking immunity over the weekendTechnically speaking, you are correct. But it amounts to the same thing...he has ceased to cooperate with the County Attorney and won't testify to the Grand Jury. He can only be compelled to testify if Romley grants immunity.
And, by the way, I wouldn't in his situation. Romley is as mean and tough a County Attorney as they come.
I hope that this thing 'blows over' for everyone's sake, but you have to understand that Romley is acting like he has a bone in his teeth!

sinky, VOTF is not interested in reform. They're intersted in gaining power. They don't speak for me. I have been suspicious of this group from the get-go. It seemed they were just too 'organized' immediately to be a kitchen-table group. Kind of like the lady who headed the 'Million Mom March'. The more I read about them, the more I get inklings about connections with 'Call to Action'. VOTF is taking advantage of the average Catholic's rightful indignation to try to effect changes in the DOCTRINE of the Church while saying they just want the laity's voice to be heard in matters of how things are handled on the local level.

The problem here is that the bishops ever relied on psychologists and their ilk in the first place. I agree, but that was the way things were done. They didn't feel like they should toss men who they thought could be cured. It wasn't until the early 90s that it began to be made clear that there is no cure for pedophilia, and that the homosexual priests were going to need a lot more than a 'drying out' session in the Southwest! Sometimes it is a fault to be TOO compassionate. And I'm sure these offensive priests took great advantage of the 'compassion' shown them by their Bishops and fellow priests.
That is something else that bugs me here. Surely some of the other priests knew what was going on. Why didn't THEY turn these guys in to the police, or at least refuse to serve in a Parish with these men?

That's really over the line. Law has been negligent and arguably malfeasant, but there's no evidence I know of that he's a pervert. Cheap shots like this are more appropriate for those who hate the Church, than for those who care about truth and justice.

Don't forget decades of tiptoeing around in fear of a de jure schism, while allowing a de facto one to develop anyway. Yup. Hopefully we'll learn from this. It's going to take decades to get out of this mess.

What in the name of heaven are you talking about? Until 6 years ago the church in question was wonderful. Orthodox and very conservative with a great pastor. It was never a Basilica.
I thought I made it PERFECTLY CLEAR that the BASILICA in question was NOT in Scottsdale, but is on the EAST COAST and NOT in the Boston jurisdiction.
I could CRUCIFY the ENTIRE Heiracy, to the tune of several $TRILLION but you know what??
Most Roman Catholics DON'T GIVE A D*MN!!!
So, why should I???
BTW, do you think that is an IDLE boast???
Ask about the LITIGATION around the WEST COAST BANK of ENCINO, California...a Jury found that the FDIC operated that bank in receivership as a RACKETTEER and CURROPT ORGANIZATION!!!
Just dare me once again...and it's CURTAINS for the "so called "Roman Church"
