NFL Too Homophobic, Needs to Learn Sensititivy (gag alert)

Mike Haynes remembers when he would have sounded a lot like Garrison Hearst.

There was the day Haynes swore at his mother, the first time he dared to treat her so disrespectfully. They were arguing about a homophobic insult he had tossed at one her co-workers, a gay man she considered a friend. She insisted that her son apologize. He refused. He was 14.

pretending they didn't exist

I like this route. Perverts I've seen act very strange, and the best way I know is to do just this. Is that intolerant? I don't think so. But WAHHHHHHH! anyway.

Send this rugged woman an email. I guess she was hired to keep their butch quotient high.

I don't see anything wrong with what Hearst said. Why would you want one of those things in your locker room? And in the AP story about it, he didn't completely go out an apologize. Who would want a pervert on their team? I don't know what he's afraid of when he apologizes. Even in San Francisco (I feel sorry for all you SFers) perverts don't make a huge percentage of the population. And that's just the city, not counting the millions of fans in the surrounding metro area. The media may make a bluster, but as the election showed, it's actual, literal people, not just media hype, that counts.

Homophobia in sports is a highly political issue that desperately needs to be personalized

Huh? What the hell IS homophobia? Fear of homosexuals?
If that was true, then why do 6 foot, 230 pound linebackers still frequent hair salons?

Then you're just as much of a bigot as Hearst is, dude. Attitudes like yours give Conservatives a bad name. Wake up.

We have this talk show host out here on the left coast by the name of Ronn Owens. He claims to be a moderate, but he is a whining self-righteous liberal when the subject of homosexuality comes up. A caller came on to defend Garrison Hearst's comments, explaining correctly that this behavior is perverted.

The skilled host slammed this poor guy down, claiming that he was ignorant and intolerant and that we should celebrate these alternative lifestyles. When he squealed this "better than thou" preachy response, it was enough to make this conservative want to through a brick at my radio. He hung up on the caller and almost went into tears that someone could be so "hateful".

I would also encourage our freepers who believe in traditional values to call the Ron Owens show. I must warn those that do, however, that he is skilled at what he does when it comes to defending political correctness. Have your facts straight, stay calm, be assertive and stand your ground.

It's responses like yours that defend perverts that give conservatives a bad name, "dude"! If believing in the traditional family and lifestyles makes me a "bigot", I will wear that name proudly!

GS, I agree entirely. It is never wrong to speak truth even if the culture may disagree with you.

DWR, If more conservatives would speak the truth as GS did, rather than surrender to politically correct group think, this country would be in much better shape. Conservatives who run as real conservatives, unafraid to offend the perverts or the baby killers or whomever, normally win election. The vast majority of people know that those who commit homosexual behavior are sick and perverted and not to be trusted. While they don't have the balls to say it themselves they will support those of us who will stand up for truth.

(BTW, There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a bigot when you're right)

What I said and what Hearts said would have been considered normal in the media 20 years ago, even maybe 15 years ago. I would hate to think our country's been screwed since then.

"A bad name." Offending left-wing freaks will give you a bad name with them, but since when were FReepers concerned about that?

Are you a lurker? I don't see too many FReepers using "wake up" or "dude" like you did. And of course, you called Hearst a bigot.

"Traditional family lifestyles", on the other hand, don't generally involve adolescents feeling free to hurl insults at their parents' co-workers, and to refuse to apologize when the parent directs them to do so. I'd have invited the co-worker to take a swing at the snotty little brat.

Why is it necessary for NFL players who are gay to come out
of the closet. Lets say I have several female friends who
are married, but I manage to keep my sexual fantasy about
them in check. I value the friendship so I keep my mouth shut about it.
How is this any different than a gay guy keeping his mouth shut
about his sexuality when it comes to the NFL or the Armed Forces?

How about a married man who manages to keep a mistress on the
side and lies to his wife about the affair. The we feel sorry for him?
The stress and anguish of having to lead a double life?

You can't possibly be this obtuse! You think it's perfectly acceptable that society should be able to abuse, harrass, and discriminate against someone arbitrarily and capriciously because of an innate trait (yes, innate)? You think someone should acquiesce to living a hidden life, less free and less honest than you just so you don't have to feel uncomfortable around them?

Ever read that part of the Constitution that guarantees "equal protection"?

Maybe we should make them all wear burkas with a scarlet letter, too!

Here's why they should keep their crap to themselves:

The average homosexual dies at age 38, unless he somehow avoids AIDS. If he dies from a cause other than AIDS, his life expectancy is still only 41 years. These figures, published by the Family Research Institute in Washington D.C., are based on over five thousand obituaries published by homosexual newspapers throughout the U.S.

The average pervert dies when he's 40. The more perverts there are, the more there will be people who die when they're 40. If they keep their crap to themselves, fewer will die.

Boo hoo hoo, how mean. But that's what it is, it's very harmful-- and even lethal.

I hate to resort to invectives, but sometimes an idiot has to be called an idiot, and you're an idiot. Your statistics are dubious with just a cursory glance.

Fpimentel->Why is it necessary for NFL players who are gay to come out of the closet.

Because the Same-sex Attraction Disorder (SAD) lifestyle demands public affirmation and celebration of their choices. To a healthy person sex is what they do, to a SAD sex is what they are. Without public affirmation of what they are the SAD feels worthless.

tdadams->You can't possibly be this obtuse! You think it's perfectly acceptable that society should be able to abuse, harrass, and discriminate against someone arbitrarily and capriciously because of an innate trait (yes, innate)?

SAD has never been shown to be genetically caused. It has been shown to be caused by being molested as a child, having a poor or non-existent relationship with one's father and by being rejected (tormented?) by one's peers in the formative years. The existence of a large and growing number of "ex-gays" gives testimony that remaining in the SAD lifestyle is entirely a choice.

So yes, society should be able to shun, in whatever manner is most effective, anyone who remains in this perverse lifestyle.

Unfortunately the early death rate of people in the SAD lifestyle is well established. People who do sick behaviors tend to die young.

Yeah, won't you do a google search on ex-gay posterboy John Paulk to see how well that is working.

How compassionate of you to treat homosexuals abusively only for their own well being and concern for their health and life. There are also many people who die young from drugs and alcohol, lung cancer from smoking, or even car crashes.

Do you also feel the need to protect these people and berate them for their behavior?

Hey, if I was a center, that quarterback damn well better be strait.
It's said that the worst job in the NFL is center for the Steelers....LOL.

Seriously, football needs "don't ask, don't tell" for the same reasons the military does. They both recruit among young males (and yes, NFL teams recruit, drafting a player only lasts a few years) and both get a disproportionate number of urban blacks and rural whites. Among both groups there's a lot of what the left would call "homophobia". It's not...it's not even a dislike of gays as people. It's revulsion at the idea of participation.

And yes, being "checked out" in the locker room would qualify as "participation".

An NFL team known to have openly gay players would be at a disadvantage signing free agents. This would cause them to be less competitive, increasing the disadvantage. The spiral would continue until they are....well, like the Bengals.

Good point.

Maybe that's what's wrong with the BenGals. You would think that after a decade of high draft picks that they would be able to put a competetive team on the field.
