Healthy Maine message-Another Doctor needs to be educated.
Bangor Daily News ^ | 11 November 2002 | Anthony Miller, M.D.

Posted on 11/12/2002 10:01:02 AM PST by SheLion

Kudos to the Healthy Maine Partnership for their recent print and television ad campaigns taking aim at the soft drink industry.

The Healthy Maine Partnership has been more visible for their admirable work in promoting tobacco use prevention and cessation, but with obesity and diabetes becoming increasing public health problems in our state and our country, those who sell super-size servings of empty calories to our increasingly sedentary children are just as culpable as tobacco companies.

Kudos also to Gov.-elect John Baldacci, who recently stated his commitment to continuing to use the joint tobacco settlement funds to underwrite the Healthy Maine Partnership. I believe this relatively modest investment in prevention and public education will pay off many times over in the improved health of Mainers, improved worker productivity and decreased health care costs.

So, I guess Mary Beth T. Welton will continue receiving her funding to sponsor RACE Teams and RACE TRACKS across the state of MAINE.

Partnership For A Tobacco Free Maine Sponsors 5 Race Teams and Race Tracks Across Maine

I guess Mary Beth T. Welton will know how the go-ahead to further ban smoking in BARS, considering the commercial she has on local TV of late.

I believe this relatively modest investment in prevention and public education will pay off many times over in the improved health of Mainers, improved worker productivity and decreased health care costs.

MODEST INVESTMENT? Just WHERE does this good Doctor think this money is COMING from?  I guess he isn't aware that the smokers in Maine who pay cigarette taxes are paying into the Tobacco Settlement money 100%.  NOT Maine Government and NOT Big Tobacco!  It's the SMOKERS!  Modest investment???!!!!

will pay off many times over in the improved health of Mainers, improved worker productivity and decreased health care costs.

This Doctor is either under educated or is just spinning more lies to the Maine Public.

Oh yes! Perhaps this Doctor works for Big Pharm!

Wonder why ME has one of the highest percentage per capita of smokers in the country.

I know they are working on reducing that 1 billion dollar deficit the anguish is leaving the state with him when he leaves the state.

Remember count the silver ware at the Blaine house, after the inauguration of Baldi.

Why is Agnes (Former Queen of Maine) going to start a restaurant in Virginia or does Baldy need the silverware after that victory party at Mama Baldacci's?

BDN about three years ago, along with the statement Mainer's are the most obese in the country.

Think it came from that boston groupd science in the public interest.

Will research it when I get a chance, and email you, with infor.

Liar Liar Pants On Fire!

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!

I swear that was the first phrase that came to my mind after reading this!!!

10 days ago a friend of mine wound up in the emergency room because of carbon monoxide poisoning due to a fault in his furnace. The attending physician never mentioned smoking, so my friend brought it up. The doctor told him his smoking had nothing to do with the fact he was suffereing from carbon monoxide poisoning. My friend pushed it and asked about second hand exposure - the doctor roared laughing at him. The doc said something along the lines of SHS being the biggest line of BS to come down the pike in ages.

So at least not all MDs are buying into the bullcrap - this ER doc was no more than 30.

If they want to protect people in Bangor they can shut down Baldacci's mom's restaurant. The sauce is out of the can, the pasta is glue and the meatballs can be used for candlepins.

Anthony Miller, M. D., submits his resume for the sinecure to Gov-Elect John Baldacci via the Bangor Daily News.

Unless, that is, he already works for the Healthy Maine Partnership.

Makes no never mind, Pravda on the Penobscot is eager to broadcast his, and their, viewpoint.

Ok! Great! Find it if you have time. Three years ago, I doubt if I still have it, if I ever did. Let me know what you find out!!!

Thanks, dts!!!

He MUST work for the Partnership for a Tobacco Free Maine.

I sent a letter in response to his letter, but the BDN seems to have put a BAN on me. I can't get any letters printed there anymore. Maybe the truth hurts.

There are always good stories and good people out there. They aren't all A-Holes! It's good to hear the good stories once-in-awhile. Thanks for sharing that, Gabz.

http://www.obesity.org/subs/fastfacts/obesity_US.shtml A Link for obesity. Again figures a little different than I remember the BDN quoting.

But I still can go out and find the site that says maine is number 1 in taxes.

Some days the bear gets you.

the way I figure it my friend, is that the antis are always so quick with their stories about how "bad" tobacco is - we need to be just as quick with the stories that show "tobacco" is not always the culprit.
