NOW Fired Up By Election Losses, Steps Up Mobilization Efforts (KNOW THY ENEMY ALERT!)
NOW Website, The Web Site Haven for Feminazis of America ^ | November 6, 2002 | NOW President Kim Gandy

Statement of NOW President Kim Gandy

With Trent Lott running the Senate and George W. Bush in charge of the White House and Supreme Court, the health and welfare of America's and the world's women and families have never been in greater jeopardy.

Hammering homeland security, Saddam Hussein and the war on terrorism, the Bush-Cheney weapon of mass distraction controlled public dialogue for the last few months. Bush's "you're either with me or you're a traitor" scorched-earth campaigning helped ensure Republican control of the Senate. Centrist Democratic pols aided their opponents with their pressure to avoid social issues and pander to corporate interests.

Women are bracing for an onslaught of judges and legislation designed to undo many of our hard-won gains and we intend to fight.

Roe v. Wade hangs by a single vote. Tipping the balance of the Supreme Court with one more extremist justice would ensure the loss of abortion rights for generations. We know that the stealth legislation disguised as "fetal protection," is really an thinly-veiled effort to deprive many more women of their reproductive freedom. And the Senate is primed to confirm a bevy of right-wing judges that will make the federal bench look more conservative than a Bush family reunion.

The Bush agenda for 2003 is no secret: further decreases in women's reproductive health options, more reductions in the already-limited safety net for the poor, restrictions on civil rights and liberties, Social Security privatization, more power for HMOs and insurers and less for patients and doctors, more lifetime appointments of religious and political extremists to the federal courts, and unfettered corporate influence over regulations that might restrain their greed. Tax cuts that benefit the wealthy will become permanent and programs that help the struggling working families who are the backbone of our nation will be slashed.

With all three branches of government controlled by one party united behind a single agenda, opportunities for advances in Congress are limited. So NOW and our hundreds of thousands of advocates will organize, organize, organize cities and towns and communities across the nation. We will work to limit the Republicans' legislative gains in Congress. And we will work with grassroots coalitions to win important protections at the state level, such as the recent enactment in California of partial wage-replacement for family and medical leave and important anti-violence protections.

As the new minority party, Democrats in Congress must abandon their "me tooism" and return to their party's roots, bringing more spirit and commitment to the debate, demonstrating leadership and real boldness on core issues. They must stop listening to the counsel of those who have blunted and stifled their message. They must do no less than engage fully in the battle for our future.

Fighting for our rights will be much harder now, but we bring to it all the passion, determination and courage that these difficult times demand. This country has a deep devotion to the concept of "liberty and justice for all" and we must gather our courage and give our time and resources to that cause.

We have taken some serious body blows, but nothing will stop us from organizing and rededicating ourselves to progress. We will do whatever it takes to protect women's lives in every city, town and district with an energized, focused and expanded constituency.

This election is a clarion call to everyone who values peace and wants a just and fair society for themselves and their children—we must join together with each other and with brave allies to defend fundamental human and civil rights and to renew our dream of full equality. We have faced and beaten formidable odds before, and we will do no less now. We must mobilize and organize as if our lives and the futures of our children and families depended on it. They do. And as our numbers double, watch out George Bush—here comes trouble!

I ask especially the women of FR to work in opposition to these Lovers of Murderous Abortion. Use a civil but firm voice and do all you can to "organize organize organize" against their desires to enslave women to their leftist, statist philosophy.

This is code for "the party must move further to the left." By all means, please do.

Kim is the rantingest woman! Just on and on. Not a moderate word comes out of her mouth when she is interviewed. She is in attack mode at all times. Kim needs to be more careful in her deportment, since she is setting a public example for her own children. Seems obvious to this observer why NOW has recently been trotting out Patricia Ireland instead of the ill-mannered, shrewish Kim.

Maybe this disenchanted skank and the other 6 NAGs will leave the country they hate so badly, along with Babs Streisand and Alec Baldwin.

Yer right -- I've never heard a civil word come out of this bitter hag's mouth.

Never? This last election placed America's and the world's women and families in their most perilous position ever?

Too bad NOW can't get the rapist/degenerate back. But there is still hope, the wife of the rapist/degenerate is still around.

Y'know,

I've been listening to the Liberals moan about 'not getting their message out' and ' not articulating their message' for days now. I think their 'message' was sufficiently 'out' and 'articulated' in the recent election for plain folks to thoroughly understand and dismiss the Liberal platform.

They should stick to hiding their leftist, immoral agenda behind sweet generalities if they are hope to recapture their appeal; but I hope they go right on articulating and outing their real intentions: their accurate presentations of Liberal Dem beliefs redounds to the benefit of Conservative America. Go Nancy Pelosi! Go Ms. Ireland! Tell us who you are, a lot!

Leftists the world over are never short of bluster and
threats that crumble when righteous people stand up to them.

If the truth be told, NOW and their "agenda" just doesn't attract the support of most average women. At least not the ones I have know.

Now hates men, babies, and families, and that's the antithesis of most normal women.

I find it ironic that whenever the Press wants a "women's spokesperson" they go & drag out a harpy from NOW, when Concerned Women for America has 3 or 4 times the membership.

Got a nice ring to it!

We already know that liberal Harry Browne stands shoulder-to-shoulder with liberals Leahy, McAuliffe, Boxer, and Pelosi in opposing America's ability and desire to defend itself from terrorism.

Anyone know how few members NOW has? I bet it's teensy...especially compared to the amount of noise they make.

Bet they hated the recent TIME magazine cover of the unborn baby.

I'm communicating from my "backup browser"-- a 66 mhtz. 486 with a sticking keyboard & gritty trackball- so excuse the weird typos, they are hard to go back to & correct.

YaYa, just from memory- they claim 250,000 but someone here checked the number of actual dues-paying members and said it was 57,000 or so.

CWF has about 3/4 of a million- I think!

Ping They are going to be screaming "a womens right to choose" very very loudly. This is a big issue for the suburban "soccer mom". This year Protecting the homeland Trumped all other issues. It will fade. Will a good economy cause more complacency and bring these issues back? You bet. We will Have to turn out atleast twice as many as we did in the Midterm and convince a few soccer moms that the worst that could possibly happen is Abortion going to the states where it belongs by the constitution, you know the congress shall have no power...

enslave women to their leftist, statist philosophy

NOW will lose. Women like Gloria Steinem killed off their children and those mothers who chose to give birth will have more influence in the end on future generations. Many college age women today are actually abortion survivors in that their own mothers chose Life over Death, they won't as easily be misled by the pro-abort feminists.

Feminists never cared about the rape issue, in fact it was a convenient pro-abortion argument for them at one time ---"what if your daughter was raped? you'd want her to have an abortion". Rape wasn't much of an issue otherwise with these women, it's all about abortion.
