DNC's Palmieri: Bush Shot Wad on Midterm Election

President Bush may have won big with yesterday's Senate sweep, but now he's shot his wad of political capital, contends Democratic Party spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri; currency that she said might have been better spent developing support for legislation he'll need to win reelection.

"He had a lot of political capital to spend," Palmieri told WABC Radio's Batchelor and Alexander Show as the returns came in late Tuesday. "He chose to spend on these midterm elections."

But the top aide to DNC chief Terry McAuliffe warned, "I don't know if that's such a great investment, frankly. It might have been better if he chose to spend it developing an economic plan or, you know, working with the Congress on a prescription drug benefit or something."

Palmieri said that while the Bush bounce was "able to bring these [Senate] guys over the edge.... Now I think the question is, to what end?"

The McAuliffe deputy predicted that Bush would "wake up tomorrow morning and say, 'Well, now what?'

"In some ways it's the worst thing," she added. "Be careful what you wish for."

Asked how she felt about the Democrats' election night debacle, Palmieri joked half-heartedly, "It feels a little bit better than in '94. It doesn't feel as good as '98. And it feels a lot better than 2000."

He certainly raked in all the chips, didn't he? Man, oh man, I'd hate to have to play poker against Bush.

I've been thinking about the DU comments lately. They still contend that Bush is stupid, ignorant, a drunk, a cokehead, an imbecile.... you know their rant. Bush snookered tham again this election, what does this say about their intellectual capability if they are getting there hineys handed to them by a "smirking chimp"? Heheheh....!

Memo to Palmieri:

A poker player bets his entire "wad" on a single hand and wins.

What is he left with? His original bet plus his winnings.

And you call that "shooting your wad and having nothing left"????????

"Shot his wad?....maybe she was thinking of Bill Clinton"

This type of speech and behavior doesn't belong anywhere near the Whitehouse, nor advising people about what type of leadership is needed.

DNC's Palmieri: Bush Shot Wad on Midterm Election

Better than on a blue dress. Leave it to a Democrat to use such a metaphor.

This is just the early stages of their plan to obstruct the President any way they can. Rather than admit that they are going to do this, they will say that the President should have worked with them rather than spending all that time winning. Because now that he's won, he has no basis for governing

It doesn't make a damn bit of sense, but when the fillibusters start, we'll see this as the rationale. If I were the President. I'd renominate the judges that didn't get out of committee and demand an immediate up or down vote in the full Senate. Let's draw our lines now and begin the fight.

Stupid, he didn't spend his political capital, he invested it - and it looks to me like he got a pretty big return on his investment!

And freebilly predicts that this Bimbo will be out of a job shortly, will wake up and say, "Well now what...?"

Yea, he's polling near 70%, just got the congress and senate needed to advance his agenda, an agenda most of america wants... but he shot his wad? Please. The only issue now is will Lott and the Senate once more betray their mandate? If that happens, then yes Bush is toast, if they don't, Bush will be strong in 04.

Tax Cuts being permanent, combined with interest rate cuts will keep enonomy on slow uptick. Perscription drugs will get passed (like it or not this is big political capital) and R's get the credit, since the D's obstructed. More terrorists will be dead etc etc... This is politics, anything can happen, but I don't think Bush shot his wad in the least... had he campaigned like crazy and lost, one couls argue he did.. but he didn't

What a bunch of pathetic whining. These psuedo-intellectuals have been continually outwitted by GWB. And, it is apparent that they don't understand the difference between investing your capital versus spending your capital. Typical dems.

I'd say the man has more political capital right now than he did before the election.

Exactly. Bush has now instilled in Democrats what Reagan did: FEAR!

They know that American people voted for George W. Bush on Tuesday, overwhelmingly, and that he can go over the heads of the pols to get what he wants.

Watching the Democrats run to the left (it now appears that Nancy Pelosi will be their new leader) is a beautiful thing to see. It will further marginalize them, and guarantee a Republican government for at least the next decade.

Actualy, "Shot his wad." is not a sexual reference, in it's orginal derivation.

Back in the good old days, when you loaded your shotgun, you poured a measured amount of gun powder down the barrel, then you put a "wad" on top of that. A wad was some fiber material. Usually a small peice of linen rag, rolled into a ball shape and pushed down with your ram rod. It was used to separate the gun powder from the shot and to provide a seal that encouraged the gun powder to explode instead of just to burn and make a lot of smoke. You then poured in a measured amount of shot, tiny lead pellets and on top of that another wad to hold the pellets in the barrel until you were ready to shoot.

If you got in too big of a hurry and failed to put the shot down the barrel, you shot your wad. If you ran out of bird shot and in despiraion you shot the only thing that you had left, then you "Shot yor wad." Kind of a last ditch effort, you do nothing or you shoot the wad. That is you made a shot with nothing useful in the shotgun, you wasted your shot. It was used to imply that you had nothing useful to offer so you just "Shot your wad."

The current useage of the term is now taken to mean that you have done everything you can do and you have nothing else left to offer.

Wait till Bush gets the unions on board through ANWR and the fact that rats are not relevant and moving left. Talk about political capital. Oh and don't forget about finance reform.

The guy is a Marxist and has no clue about "capital".

Capital is not something that is spent.

Capital is invested. A Capital investment expects a return. The President invested his asset and will without doubt earn, that is earn, a great return.

What is really great is that by next June, there will be no capital gains tax and the President will not only make a healthy capital gain, but the law will change and it will be tax free.

Well, as long as she is going to talk in terms of sexual analogies, I would prefer to think of political capital as similar to love (love, not lust): the more you give, the more you get back.

Note that she does not say WHO it would be better for. Lefties are consistent in that they present personal desires as if they are EVERYONE'S desires or best interests.

You are going to try to explain capital investment to socialists? Last I heard they took the capital that they had and buried it in the back yard so it would be safe.

Hey, Jennifer how's it feel to get hit with a wad THAT BIG?

Had to be surprising to you given that you're only used to Clinton-sized.
