I've been debating whether or not to post this as I don't intend to open up a religous discussion on this thread. However, election time is drawing near, and our liberties are at stake. I've heard repeated calls on FR to get out and vote. I encourage that as well. Many have said that this election will depend on which party does better with their "get out and vote" methods. We must certainly do our best.
However, I would like to take it a step further. This election may be beyond our control, but we need to recognize that there is one who is sovereign over all.
I say this to suggest that we should be offering up a petition of prayer from now until the election is finalized. I also suggest fasting as a sign of the importance of this issue to yourself. I've started my fast. If you agree to pray and/or fast with me over this, reply to this message with an acknowlegement. I believe if enough people agree to do this diligently, great things will happen.
I second that question.
I've been courteous for quite some time now, and continue to be when addressed with decency and respect. allowing for the possibility of a god, I think it's rather selfish and presumptuous to ask for his/her/its intervention in specific matters such as this.
can I quote this during the forum-wide hissy fits that are sure to surface with each contested election?
Seems to me that if a person didn't care about God they would ignore everything religious. So I take disruption as opportunity!
mombonn>"God is in control."
m123>If he's really in control, he must be pro-choice since he's allowed it in this country since 1973. Or maybe he's just getting old and forgetful. Better wake him up with some louder prayers.

2 Thessalonians 2:1 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our
being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers,
2 Thessalonians 2:2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy,
report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that
the day of the Lord has already come.
2 Thessalonians 2:3 Dont let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not
come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness
[Some manuscripts: sin] is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.
2 Thessalonians 2:4 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is
called God or is worshipped, so that he sets himself up in
Gods temple, proclaiming himself to be God.
2 Thessalonians 2:5 Dont you remember that when I was with you I used to tell
you these things?
2 Thessalonians 2:6 And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may
be revealed at the proper time.
2 Thessalonians 2:7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but
the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.
2 Thessalonians 2:8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord
Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendour of his coming.

But he does chose sides in football games. Did you see the Michigan-Michigan State score from Saturday?
at least you admit that it is "blind". I don't condemn those who believe, yet they condemn me frequently. those who act as missionaries at least do so out of a desire to help me; sadly, they're outnumbered by arrogant, pompous asses who would have me believe I'm going to hell because I left the church in order to avoid being an opportunist hypocrite.
only if its your first and best LOL
I disagree. This isn't a football game. Praying to God that an election goes a certain way to benefit the unborn, civil rights and protection of our country isn't something small and inconsequential.
If I pray a candidate wins but loses, it doesnt mean God hates me or the candidate I want to win. It means that my wishes do not trump Gods wishes in his plan. A much bigger plan than mine might I add.
This is not saying that I just sit in a dark room and pray, God does reward those who work for his Kingdom. That includes getting the word out on particular candidates who favor pro life legislation that would be favorable in Gods eyes.
Just my humble opinion.
reminds me of the comedian who noted only the winners cite jesus... i.e. you never hear "we were winning... until jesus made me fumble."
Thats a misunderstandment of God himself. He isnt some pencil pusher with an in/out box going 1 per hour...
