Follow the Sniper Money

"Follow the Money". There has been much misdirection and disinformation about where the money was supposed to go. It was to go into a credit card account, but not one stolen in the Alabama robbery. The police chief there was adamant in stating that no credit card was taken in that robbery.

A redacted copy of the killer's note has been published, and an astute freeper has shown us how to get past the redactions and read the name on that credit card account.

You can find that name by going

here

A check for that name hasn't yielded much, but if we add one more "r" to the name (which returns the name to its common spelling) we get a name which matches a young criminology grad student from Maryland who lives in the town where the student was killed, and works for the state's Sentencing Guidelines Commission (SCCSP).

The media has reported that the stolen card was used in Takoma Park, near the U of M.

Several questions arise from the above. Given her work in criminology and the SCCSP, does Moose know her? How did the snipers get, not only her card, but the PIN number too? Why are the police keeping the lid on the card?

On Dateline NBC last night they said that the two has a stolen credit card from Arizona (Phoenix?), taken on their trip from Tacoma back to John M's hometown in Louisiana.

Three years ago, and never cancelled? I guess if you suspend reason, that makes sense...

Huh? A stolen credit card was used for 3 years? Did they get the bill redirected? This is getting bizarre.

This means the Credit Card wasn't stolen - the identity was!

Good point, but still they had to have some money to pay off the bill when it comes due. From what I saw last night John M could work as a mechanic but that was about it. How did he fund his and Lee M's trip across country? How did they pay for themselves in Maryland?
Heard on the news that they paid $250 (maybe that was their share of the car as there's a co-owner) for the Caprice. Where on earth are you getting a car that runs for that much? Maybe he worked on it himself. Maybe someone else paid for it. Curiousier and curiousier.

How about this for Curious - the car lot that the Caprice was bought at (supposedly) is only 7 blocks from the Postal Facility shut down by the Anthrax Mailings - HMMM

When he bought the car from "Sure Shot Sales", did it already have the sniper hole in it? If not, where did he get the tools to cut the hole? If he was living out of a duffle bag, it seems unlikely he'd have tools with him.

And see this post stating that there was a bomb threat at the DMV office right before he registered his car, on 9/11/2002.

Living out a duffle bag AND carrying around a Bushmaster XM-15. Maybe you can hide that in an oversized gym bag if you break it down. Plus he would have to keep tabs on that bag at all times.

The Bellingham paper reported that he even took the duffle bag to the bathroom with him. Would not even leave it with his boy toy.

The note from the shooter said:

"You will activate the bank account, credit card, and pin number."

So it was not an active account. How they came by the card is no doubt an interesting story.

If there is a big sales tax maybe they only claimed $250 on registration. I've heard of people in other states that do this and pay the rest "under the table". If New Jersey is like Pennsylvania you must provide the purchase price to register vehicle. That is how they charge the sales tax. Dealers wouldn't do this but private seller might.

According to the car dealer the car was intact-no hole in the trunk at the time of sale. Remember, Muhammud has worked both as a welder (stated by his sister in law on CNN interview) and as a mechanic--with those skills a hole in the trunk lid should not be a difficult task.

Consider off-shore credit card accounts. Antigua banks are notorious for being non-compliant with U.S. Feds; lots of money/influence used on the Senate Finance Committee to forestall anti-terrorism off-shore banking bill.

Very true, I should have specified a reputable dealer would not.

By CURT ANDERSON
Associated Press Writer
10/26/2002
WASHINGTON -- The letter left by the sniper suspects outside a Virginia steakhouse includes the demand for $10 million, giving the 16-digit account number and a PIN number for a stolen Bank of America platinum credit card.
"We will have unlimited withdrawal at any ATM worldwide," the letter says.
The credit card was stolen from a Greyhound bus driver in Flagstaff, who told The Washington Post it was taken from a pouch behind her seat as she drove between Nogales and Flagstaff on March 25. Authorities later told her that her card was used to purchase gas in Tacoma, Wash., where suspect John Muhammad once lived.
The letter began with a cover sheet that said "call me God" and demanded $10 million ransom in "unlimited withdrawal" around the world, law enforcement officials said Friday night.
"For you, Mr. Policeman. Call me God. Do not release to the press," says the letter, described by a federal law enforcement source familiar with the four-page document.
The bus driver, who spoke to the Post on the condition of anonymity, said she did not realize the Visa card had been stolen until Bank of America's fraud control branch wrote her on April 11, saying it had automatically closed the account after the Visa was used for a $12.01 gasoline purchase in Tacoma, Wash., that the bank believed to be "fraudulent."
"That was the end of that, until last Sunday when I had the FBI calling me at Greyhound, saying that through this credit card they (had a link to) the people involved with the sniping," she said.
