The USO Canteen FReeper Style
Delivering a Touch of Home
.
.
A Touch of Home
.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen
Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of
place that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor,
a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they
served.
This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank
them.
Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.
We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper
Style, are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.
So, to the men and women who answered the call,
In both times of war and peace, thank you.
.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Toad Suck Daze
Long ago, steamboats traveled the
Arkansas River when the water was
at the right depth. When it wasn't, the
captains and their crew tied up to wait
where the Toad Suck Lock and Dam now
spans the river.
While they waited, they refreshed themselves
at the local tavern there, to the dismay of the
folks living nearby, who said: "They suck on
the bottle 'til they swell up like toads." Hence,
the name Toad Suck. The tavern is long gone,
but the legend and fun live on at Toad Suck Daze.

Check it out Girlz, more bumper boats. And more time to play with them. Duchess has her hair dryer for Beamer, so if he gets wet it won't take forever to get him dry. Everybody have fun!

Most people that ain't Hoosiers are either liberals or statist pieces of crap, I have no use for either.
Most people that are liberals or statist elites wouldn't be posting in the Free Republic nor would they be posting to our troops.
Most people that are liberals or statist elites would think that using the term "ain't" is a form of ignorance and very redneck.
Most people that are liberals or statist elites would find it very hard to understand any conservative from any state.
Most people, like myself, are blessed to hail from Ohio where the governor and the two Senators are BOTH REPUBLICAN. I almost have little use for states that have a SENATOR that is a DEMOCRAT, but I overcome that. It isn't everyone's fault.
Most people in the Midwest, I would still assume that Indiana is still there, tend to be very friendly, God fearing, conservative, and proud of their families.

Wow, You about summed up what I was was trying to say. Bless You.

God Bless you!! I feel bad that Evan Bayh is your Senator. It must be horrible. Oh! I try to keep my children out of Indiana for that mere reason. I don't want them to think that our conservative family thinks Hoosiers are losers for having a Democrat Senator. He's such a liberal statist elite.

Wow, SAM! Those PBY-Catalinas bring back a lot of memories. In Southeastern Alaska, along the Panhandle, there are lots of villages scattered around the numerous little islands. Since there is no way to drive into Juneau, the only way for these villages to have access to any of the larger towns was by boat or by air. Alaska Coastal Airlines was a small island-hopper airline in those days, and flew mostly Catalinas and Grumman Goose(s?)(Geese?) back and forth between the islands and the Mainland. Sometimes, on very calm days, they would taxi out into the middle of the Gastineau Channel, and drive around in a circle for a while to stir up enough motion in the water to provide a little lift. In some of the old pictures of the Alaska Coastal Airlines aerodrome on the wharf in Juneau, the big "Alaska Airlines" sign is visible. My daddy painted that sign in the forties. ...sigh...memories...

Hi my friend, thank you so much for sharing about when you went to Arkansas. And your younger brother going to school there.
Yes, it is a fun State with lots to do. I wish the klintoons had not claimed any State. No one with their right mind would want them. grrrr
I spent about three weeks in Little Rock when FallGuy was doing a movie and we had a lot of fun there. The people were very friendly.
To: LindaSOG
