After nearly a year of running for the Senate and 50 minutes of debate where he painted himself as a Democrat Jesse Helms, Erskine Bowles has admitted that he worked 5 years for the Clinton Administration.
Did you Freepers know that Erskine takes all of the credit for the Balanced Budget in '95?

Sorry for the Breaking News thing, but hey this is breaking news in NC.
Anyone else watching the debate?
Liddy got in a good lick. Bowles was trying to paint her as a carpetbagger. Liddy asked why if he was so against carpetbaggers, why he raised so much money for Hillary!

I don't know but it was probably something about Republican mean-spiritedness. Any time a Republican hits back, it's mean.

He worked in an imaginary Clinton administration which had conservative NC values. He negotiated the balanced budget. He supported Family Leave, Liddy didn't. He'll save Social Security by doing nothing, Liddy will take the lockbox to Atlantic City and gamble away the trust fund. He'll support Bush and the war on terror, Liddy will take away old people's checks. 'His' administration gave GIs their biggest raise, Liddy'll have em on food stamps.
He really came across as the pencil necked geek he is. Too bad only about 7 people in NC watched. The NCGOP should be able to get a few good ads out of it.
Liddy came across as calm, cool, collected, sounded way to liberal for me as they both fought for the muddy middle.

For those outside the NC loop, for all his campaigning, Irksome Bowels has never admitted to working for Clinton. His pamphlets and web page show his 'work' in DC, standing next to Trent Lott. You'd think he was the cheerleaders chief-of-staff.

PErhaps she's a moderate but she's a moderate who will vote for Bush's judicial nominees. Any port in a storm and with half this nations judges appointed by Klink, the storm is coming.

She did stress she would support the R's and Bush's nominees and asked Bowels where he stood. He waffled.

I agree. I think she came across pretty well, but have no idea what the AVERAGE voter would think. In a state that elects Jesse Helms and John Edwards, who knows!
I always cringe when she talks about a prescription drug benefit being added to Medicare. Way too moderate, but she is definitely better than Irksome.

Yes I watched. This was the first time I heard Bowles speak. I expected him to sound like Mr. Peepers also.
I thought Dole's grasp of the facts was superior. However she did stumble on the 'Reparations' issue, IMHO. She also missed an opening on school vouchers, letting Bowles get away with the statemet that vouchers would cut teacher jobs. Duh??? There would still need to be teachers, just not school board employees.
He got in some licks on the 'live in NC issue'.
Any one who would work for Clinton has NO integrity.
Not that I even thought of voting for him.

Thanks for the updates, TC. I'm no longer in NC, and I pulled the plug on my TV a long time ago, so I didn't know this was happening. Thanks for supporting Ms. Dole.

I posted on the other debate thread that we now know now why this debate was recorded by mutual agreement. Neither had much camera presence but do think that Liddy was better though it was about as dull a debate as I have ever seen

Hey NC Freepers. I saw a fawning 60 Minutes story on the guy who owns SAS. Where's he put his money? The press coverage was way to favorable for a Republican.

Liddy is probably too liberal in some things for many of us. But she will support the President's nominations. Bowels won't.
In my opinion, she does not have the blind, obsessive ambition and evil goals that a Hillary-type has. If GW can't keep her pretty much in line, then we have no faith in his abilities.

However she did stumble on the 'Reparations' issue, IMHO. A definate turnover to Bowels on that one. I would have said, "I support reparations for every surviving slave, to be paid by every surviving slave holder". But that's me.
Her waffling into opportunities for minorities sounded like a pitch for more affirmative action.
