The USO Canteen FReeper Style
Delivering a Touch of Home

.

.

A Touch of Home

.

This is how I think of the USO Canteen
Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.

Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of
place that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor,
a library, etc.

Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they
served.

This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

Snow Bunny

.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank
them.

Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.

We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper
Style, are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.

So, to the men and women who answered the call,
in both times of war and peace, thank you.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

John McCrae

.

The USO Canteen Honors FReepers
who have served, or are now serving their country.

.

You may have a loved one who has served in the past.
We at the FReeper USO Canteen would like to honor each and every one.

Thank you for serving Zbigniew !

to the USO Canteen, where we honor, daily, our troops, our veterans, their families, and our allies. Monday is Mail Call, when Snow Bunny, our hostess, posts emails that she gets from the troops telling us how they feel about their Canteen, or Saturday for liberty, or Sunday for Prayer Day. Tuesdays and Wednesdays could be any topic and Thursday is officially Themeless. Please join us again.

Thank you for sharing your family's background with us.

Sometimes America forgets that there were other people fighting World War 2. We were actually late comers to the war.

Thank you 68-69tonkingulfyatchclub for the flowers.

Hmmmmm, I was afraid we might have a shortage of raincoats and they would definitely be needed for the passengers in the back. Maybe one of the Bad Boyz will offer to take Beamer for a spin in a tank so his feelings won't be hurt too badly.

Sorry you're having so much trouble with your ISP. We've been pretty lucky with ours for this webtv. I don't know what to expect from the satellite company. One of these days we'll get the computer going and then we'll find out.

Well, if you think you have enough raincoats for everyone, maybe Beamer can take it around the block once. Any longer than that and we'll need face masks and snorkels....it being an enclosed space and all. LOL!!

Ha! I've got my own snorkel, too. It's a nice one - self-clearing. I'm prepared for all this stuff! (But I only have one of those...we'll have to hit a sporting goods store one the way out of town.)

I need to head out for a bit. Cotton Mather hasn't come around today and I need to go to the edge of the woods. Maybe he's up in a tree and I'll hear him crying. That's what I'm praying for any way. I hope we didn't lose another cat to those d*mn coyotes! I'm going on the warpath if we did. I've had enough of those nasty creatures.

I'll be back in a while.

A man is dining in a fancy restaurant & a gorgeous redhead is sitting at the next table. He has been checking her out since he sat down, but lacks the nerve to talk with her. Suddenly, she sneezes & her glass eye comes flying out of its socket towards the man. He reflexively reaches out, grabs it out of the air & hands it back.

"Oh my, I am so sorry," the woman says as she pops her eye back in place. "Let me buy your dinner to make it up to you," she says.

They enjoy a wonderful dinner together; afterwards the theater, followed by drinks. They talk, they laugh, she shares her deepest dreams & he shares his. She listens.

After paying for everything, she asks him if he would like to come to her place for a nightcap .....& stay for breakfast. The next morning, she cooks a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. The guy is amazed!! Everything had been SO incredible!!!!

"You know," he said,"you are the perfect woman. Are you this nice to every guy you meet?".

"No," she replies........."

"You just happened to catch my eye."

No telling what types of strange boyz (especiallly those with "voices") will try to hitch a ride with you!

You're just jealous that the "voices" don't talk to you!

Soldiers Prayer

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve,
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked for health, that I might do greater things,
I was given infirmity, that I might do better things.
I asked for riches, that I might be happy,
I was given poverty, that I might be wise.
I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men,
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life,
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing I asked for --
but everything I had hoped for.
Almost, inspite myself, my
unspoken prayers were answered.
I am, among all men,
most richly blessed.

NEENER! NEENER! NEENER!

This lady surprised a burglar in her kitchen. He was all loaded down with the things he was going to steal. She had no weapon and was all alone. The only thing that she could think to do was quote scripture. So, she holds up a hand and says, "ACTS 2:38!"
The burglar quakes in fear and then freezes to the point that she is able to get to the phone and call 911 for the cops. When the cops arrive, the burglar is still frozen in place. They are very much surprised that a woman alone with no weapon could do this. One of them asked the lady: "How did you do this?"

The woman replied, "I quoted scripture." The cop turned to the burglar and asked, "What was it about the scripture that had such an effect on you?"

The burglar replied, "Scripture! What scripture? I thought she said she had an ax and two 38's."

Your voices talked to me, tom. They said that they wished you would wash your burka because the smell was starting to confuse them.
