I'm a little concerned....

Posted on 10/10/2002 12:40:59 PM PDT by JimThayner

umm...I'm a little concerned about some stuff on this website. why do we call democrats 'rats? they call us "repugnants" I think we're above that kind of childish namecalling. I think we're coming down a little too hard on the liberals too. I'm an Independent, and I try to find the truth. well, the TRUTH is that 90% of the time, conservatives are correct. why do i voice opposition? Aren't we above all this stuff that the democrats do? I think we need to prove to America that WE are controlled, clear thinking, intelligent, and sophistacted people. NOT people who go and cheer and jeer at the other side. my suggestion is this: Instead of going out to cheer and geer at the democrats, we should go out and do community service projects, hand out fliers, and do stuff to help the community. THAT is what will separate us from the democrats. WE spend our time living what we chant about, the democrats spend their time chanting all the time. Talkting instead of DOING. I think we need to go beyond a "political party." I DO believe that the liberals will destroy our country if not stopped. However, i don't want us to destroy it in the process of trying to stop them. Lets show them up: do work for others, and such. Organize relief for disaster victims. (headlines: FreeRepublic first on site rendering aid to distaster victims, liberals shocked at being shown how much jerks liberals are" Spend less time and money on trying to talk the liberals to death with reason (obviously that won't work). Spend time DOING. My father knew California State Assemlyman Brian (B.T.) Collins since they were in Boy Scouts together. Look up BT Collins. he was a POPULAR Republican in CALIFORNIA! He spent his time helping other people, and used the phrase "is the world any better because you were in it?" I would like to offer my own version: "Is america better off because of the Republican Party's majority?" What do you all think about this? BTW, don't worry, I'm not a liberal. jim

which turns politics, which is war by other means, into war itself.

Politics is war without the physical shooting. Always has been, always will be. That other poster was right, the Rats took the gloves off many years ago. For the most part, our side has not. Some of us on FR sure have, and more power to us. It is about d--- time. Screw the Rats.

3. The Debate Preparation Tape Theft

Funny you should mention that tape.

A week or so ago, after algore exploded in San Fran, Imus had LIEberman on his morning radio show.

Imus joked that Carl Rove had written the speach for algore.

And LIEberman responded, laughing, 'yeah, just like that debate tape they sent us.'

Stuff like this is why I love the Imus show, these guys loosen up and allow a few peeks at the internal thoughts and actions of their parties.

This was illuminating since it gave the impression that..

1. That the tape showed Bush was ill prepared for debate, thus sandbagging algore.
2. That the GOP had somehow engineered the theft. (although a dem operative was found guilty)
3. That the Dems had actually watched the tape after piously declaring at the time that they hadn't watched more than a minute or two.

another good reason to call them 'Rats'.

Thanks for your opinion. Moderation is still a virtue where I come from. There is no reason to stoop to the level of our opponants. I don't use the term 'rats' but I don't think much of it when someone else uses it. Anyway we are fellow citizens and it must be possible to fight this out without offendeing more moderate Democrats who have not yet seen the light. Honey will draw more flies than vinegar but we also do not want to attract flies.

I even have a few friends who are *gasp* Democrats but they are more conservative and reasonable than some who post here. We must remember that in the South some call themselves Democrat more as a matter of tradition than ideology. It would be a shame to alienate them because of a few loud mouth people who have never learned the meaning of civil discourse. Thanks for your input.

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH! Listen this is a war for the heart soul of America if someone disagrees with us that's fine, but if someone goes out of their to impugn what I believe with nothing more than their "feelings" then they don't deserve a place in the debate, and they will be labeled "Rats" as in democRATS (at least our slam is more clever). Are communists the enemy to a Democracy? The answer a resounding YES what is one step up from communists? Liberals. They are the enemy and we will keep them on the run. They will not find safe haven anywhere (except for CA there's no hope;)They will not rest, they will not sleep, and we will not stop until this enemy has been eradicated from our landscape!

"They took the gloves off a long time ago. The left in this country hates America, hates Western civilization, hates free enterprise, hates freedom and hates the Constitution. They have declared war on everything we hold dear and stop at nothing to wage it."

That, my friend, is ridiculous, and it's that kind of willful blindness and demonization of others -- your neighbors and co-workers, if not your friends and family -- which turns politics, which is war by other means, into war itself.

What kind of PC utopia do you live in? That's not blindness - that's honesty. And this is war - war for our nation's existence. Whose side are you on? Being civil to these people is like giving the Palis money for 'security'. Wake up.

I personally like it better when we called them 'Clymers'.

LOL. It's also much more fun dealing with Clymers than Rats . . .

Well Jim, now you know why rdb3 suggested getting some asbestos.

Me, I would have suggested getting paper towels to wipe off the drool and spittle from some of the more rabid types here.

I think we need to go beyond a "political party."

We need to become a more focused, disciplined and professional party. The Democrats will always have an advantage over us, because those who derive their entire economic sustanence through big central government will have far greater motivation to work politically than those of us who disdain government and work in the private sector. The irony is that we need to make a total commitment to get our folks into Big Government before we can work our goal to shrink the huge role and burden Big Government puts on our property rights and individual freedoms. Being a kind and generous person does nothing to lessen the grip on the nation's treasure Democrats get by working politics with ferocity and amorality, 24X7.

...and the fact that somebody went to jail when it was Bush's tape, but when someone in Harkin's camp made a tape AND leaked it to the press, all Harkin could say was "I don't think any laws were broken..."

I agree with you that name calling adds little to the debate. Although I try to avoid it an occasional "Leaky Leahy" will grace my posts. Every once in a while, a person gets so mad they have to cuss and name call. With some notable exceptions, the better posts avoid trashing for the sake of trashing. However, humor and puns are imposible to resist.
