I'm a little concerned....

umm...I'm a little concerned about some stuff on this website. why do we call democrats 'rats? they call us "repugnants" I think we're above that kind of childish namecalling. I think we're coming down a little too hard on the liberals too. I'm an Independent, and I try to find the truth. well, the TRUTH is that 90% of the time, conservatives are correct. why do i voice opposition? Aren't we above all this stuff that the democrats do? I think we need to prove to America that WE are controlled, clear thinking, intelligent, and sophistacted people. NOT people who go and cheer and jeer at the other side. my suggestion is this: Instead of going out to cheer and geer at the democrats, we should go out and do community service projects, hand out fliers, and do stuff to help the community. THAT is what will separate us from the democrats. WE spend our time living what we chant about, the democrats spend their time chanting all the time. Talkting instead of DOING. I think we need to go beyond a "political party." I DO believe that the liberals will destroy our country if not stopped. However, i don't want us to destroy it in the process of trying to stop them. Lets show them up: do work for others, and such. Organize relief for disaster victims. (headlines: FreeRepublic first on site rendering aid to distaster victims, liberals shocked at being shown how much jerks liberals are" Spend less time and money on trying to talk the liberals to death with reason (obviously that won't work). Spend time DOING. My father knew California State Assemlyman Brian (B.T.) Collins since they were in Boy Scouts together. Look up BT Collins. he was a POPULAR Republican in CALIFORNIA! He spent his time helping other people, and used the phrase "is the world any better because you were in it?" I would like to offer my own version: "Is america better off because of the Republican Party's majority?" What do you all think about this? BTW, don't worry, I'm not a liberal. jim

Both conservatives and liberals want to end crime and poverty Correction: conservative and naive liberals want to end crime and poverty. The cynical among Democrats see a class of continually aggrieved as a perpetual constituency from which to draw votes.

Jim,
Quite frankly it is because it is easier to 'hate' and mischaracterize the opposition than to rationaly deal with issues. There is a difference between ideology and idealogues... idealogues are the problem. Conflicts in ideology are debates, conflicts between ideologues are wars.
DU does it to republicans and many here do it to the democrats. (Not saying that at times it is not warranted) It is clearly obvious to me, that the democratic party is the party of the marxist, and has sold its soul repeatedly for power and does not put the interests of america ahead of its own lust for power. To a certain extent this exists in the republican party as well, but not to the same degree.
Republicans/Conservative ideologues generally refuse to recognize the role, need or importance that government plays in society. They believe the free market will solve all problems and is for the most part an absolute good and that all government law is tyranny or an absolute bad. Democrats/Liberal ideologues are the exact opposite, they tend to view the free market as an absolute bad, and government as an absolute good.
Neither of these viewpoints is correct however, but don't try to convince an ideologue on either side of that one :) You'll be called a liberal by the righties and a right wing nut by the lefties.
I had always viewed the democratic party as a party who while I disagreed with them, truly were doing what they felt was right for america. Sadly, anymore I do not hold that oppinion of the democratic party, between the obvious ignoring of their constitutional duty and by putting party above what was right during the impeachment both the democrats and republicans lost my faith that either would do what was right when needed. THe republicans got some points for the house, but the senate absolutely betrayed america in the face of nothing more than pole numbers. Then the 2000 election and the dems lust for power over america blazened completely and unabashedly, and now the NJ fiasco, Al Gore, Daschel and the rest of em, with terrorism play politics with our nationals security, putting unions above the safety and security of this nation.
I do believe there are democrats who do love their country and are not socialist/marxists. Of course over 50 current democrats in the House are openly registered socialists. I don't however believe that many of those who truly love this nation hold positions of power.. I dispise their parties balkanization and class warfare tactics, the promotion of diversity over melting pot. Their indefensible capitulation to special interests, and their repeated bald face lying on policy issues. Rank and file dems are generally ok, unfortunately their party is beholden to left over 60s wacko's who never grew up.

As you can see, we are a bunch of nice, God-fearing, Jesus-loving, kind people who are doing our best to give onlookers the proper perspective when considering becoming a conservative. Don't be discouraged by the name-calling (newbie, etc.). It's our attempt to be charming and break the ice. In our best Southern manners, of course. :-)

I'm a little concerned about some stuff on this website. why do we call democrats 'rats? Alas, it wasn't always so. I've seen this site go through lots of changes lately and the "rats" thing is just the latest craze sweeping FR. If you want to know what's going on, read up on "The Delphi Technique". That should give you everything you need to know about what is happening to this website.

I think we're coming down a little too hard on the liberals too.I know that some do not, but when these scum bags love scum bags like Daniel Ortega, Fidel Castro, Gorbachev, Yassir Arafat, Robert Mugabe, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Saddam Hussein, Bill and Hillary, and Al Gore, they are scum bags. Unfortunately, I don't think we come down on them even 1/10th of what they deserve.

Actually, we call them 'Rats' because they named themselves.
During the 2K race, the Dems latched upon an ad that finished with a one frame shot of the last part of the word Democrat behind a candidate.
The dems made a stink about 'sublimal messages'. They claimed the GOP was programming the people to think of Dems as Rats.
It stuck.

"To wit: Both conservatives and liberals want to end crime and poverty."To this I must disagree. Liberals like Teddy Kennedy, Al Gore, etc. do not want an end to crime and poverty.
To: mg39
Liberals don't want to end poverty. The gullible followers may, but their leaders do not. They NEED poverty and ignorance in order to have a voting base. They need people to be dependent on other people in order to survive, or at least they need people to
think they cannot survive independent of government and social services.
They want people to look to government instead of being self-reliant, instead of exchanging neighborly help.
Just as lawyers want a confusing legal system from which they can profit on frivolous lawsuits, liberals want laws and rules and oppressive taxes and unprotected property rights to prevent people from gaining independence.
The LAST thing the liberal leadership wants is to end poverty.

One of the central functions of authorities is to establish the status system of the organization. A status system is a socially established pattern of judgment of persons, with respect to their relative worth. This may be worth by doing a particular job in the organization, or may be generalized to a judgment of worth as a person. But this status system has degenerated into a system of labeling and stereotyping. The stereotypes used are a lot easier to understand, and besides, there are a lot more interesting and entertaining than digging into reality.
Labeling and stereotyping leads to loneliness, separation, and isolation. Great efforts have been made to reduce ethnic prejudice and racism, which come from a labeling, stereotyping, mentality.
We have however, done a great job in this country creating a vast number of social outcast. Our jails are full of drop outs and misfits.

why do we call democrats 'rats?Because-we-don't-like-them.
Why?
Two reasons: one, they hated us first.
Two, because they are destroying my country.
Can you think of two better reasons to be rude to someone?

I'm sure you're more at home with James Carvile. My own theory of why politics has degenerated into a shouting match is that the parties have positioned themselves so that each has about 49.9 percent of the vote.
It wasn't always like this. Prior to 1960, elections weren't as close. The dems owned national politics from 1932 on. Eisenhower was a fluke. Like Powell, he was a famous general who could have gone either way.
When Reagan won, the dems acted as if their birthright had been stolen. When Gingrich engineered the takeover of congress in 1994, all hell broke loose.

Nice thoughts and all, but have you ever tried to discuss anything with a liberal. If you take conservative positions you are vilified and ridiculed.
I have been told I am a religious nut because of my stance on abortion, but never mention God or religion in any way when opposing it.
I have been called a war monger when I state I believe we have an obligation to oppose threats to our country.
I have been told I want children to starve or live in the streets when I state how mismanaged welfare is.
I have been told I am hate filled because I believe a person who brutally rapes and kills another should be put to death.
I have had liberals lie about facts to make their position believable, but when caught call me names for pointing out the obvious.
I have been called a racist because I believe we should control our boarders (I am married to an Hispanic women and have even been told I married her for "cover")
Sir, you have got it wrong. The hate spewed by the left is real and relentless. Many freepers do speak out of line in frustration, but it is nothing compared to the hate of the left.
To illustrate how much the left hates consider this: During the 2000 DemocRATic National Convention the Boy Scouts of America (Young men who, through hard work, had earned the rank of Eagle Scout) were booed when they made an appearance at the convention. Can you even fathom a member of the Republican Party ever doing anything like that?
Hate, the left is full of it.

Read a little Marx, Mao, a little about Stalin and HoChi Minh, then compare those theories to the means and methods of the Democrat party, even if just from Clinton's election in 1992. Read Hillary's It Takes A Village. Then come back and claim that party hasn't been co-opted.

We've tried being nice and what has it got us? They've damned near ruined the country. Can't be nice anymore, gotta take the gloves off before it's too late-which many may argue it already is. Bottom line:nicey-nicey doesn't work.
