I'm a little concerned....

umm...I'm a little concerned about some stuff on this website. why do we call democrats 'rats? they call us "repugnants" I think we're above that kind of childish namecalling. I think we're coming down a little too hard on the liberals too. I'm an Independent, and I try to find the truth. well, the TRUTH is that 90% of the time, conservatives are correct. why do i voice opposition? Aren't we above all this stuff that the democrats do? I think we need to prove to America that WE are controlled, clear thinking, intelligent, and sophistacted people. NOT people who go and cheer and jeer at the other side. my suggestion is this: Instead of going out to cheer and geer at the democrats, we should go out and do community service projects, hand out fliers, and do stuff to help the community. THAT is what will separate us from the democrats. WE spend our time living what we chant about, the democrats spend their time chanting all the time. Talkting instead of DOING. I think we need to go beyond a "political party." I DO believe that the liberals will destroy our country if not stopped. However, i don't want us to destroy it in the process of trying to stop them. Lets show them up: do work for others, and such. Organize relief for disaster victims. (headlines: FreeRepublic first on site rendering aid to distaster victims, liberals shocked at being shown how much jerks liberals are" Spend less time and money on trying to talk the liberals to death with reason (obviously that won't work). Spend time DOING. My father knew California State Assemlyman Brian (B.T.) Collins since they were in Boy Scouts together. Look up BT Collins. he was a POPULAR Republican in CALIFORNIA! He spent his time helping other people, and used the phrase "is the world any better because you were in it?" I would like to offer my own version: "Is america better off because of the Republican Party's majority?" What do you all think about this? BTW, don't worry, I'm not a liberal. jim

"I personally like it better when we called them 'Clymers'."
That I can agree with. Not only was that a perfect put down, it also fit into several democratic constituencies proclivities, as well as symbolizing a new image of the Democrats ass, vs. the Republican Elephant.

Because you get nowhere by being nice to them.

I will accept some are misguided. But many are simply evil. To be restrained in the face of it is no virtue. LOL, Ivan, are you sure you don't live in the US? You have such an acute understanding of what is going on here. BTW, I see the Cleveland Indians considered this past season to be a rebuilding season. My Minnesota Twins did ok, even though they will not make it to the series.

I've been lurking here for years and only registered here after qwest screwed up the usenet servers by handing them over to MSN.
Of course the "rats" thing dates back to the 2000 campaign ad but ever since Todd posted his thread where Jim said "the rats are evil", it been running rampant. Oh sure, there are guys like Todd who scream about the "rats" all the time but now it's pretty much the norm these days.
You may like all the group think that's going on around here but I don't. I think it dilutes FR greatly and if you look around you'll see that lots of intelligent posters are leaving FR behind.

Well, Jim, I'll tell you...there is certainly a place for courtesy within the vast continuum of political discourse. At times this courtesy calls for a certain restraint in labeling, that is, one doesn't necessarily label the innocent a "communist" for advocating the violent overthrow of the sitting government and the establishment of state ownership of the means of production. That person may or not be aware of the Marxian corpus and may merely be parroting something she or he has heard. That does not, of course, make that individual or his or her program any less communistic, it is simply that for the reasons of social intercourse you refrain from saying so out loud.
This is a social convention, and nothing more. It isn't that it is inappropriate to show this courtesy to those who answer it with vituperation, it is merely futile. Cajoling a rock doesn't move it, hitting the bastard with a shovel does.
I think, too, that someone imprudently suggesting behaviors to a group whose mores he or she does not completely understand may be regarded as a bit presumptuous. Hence the following suggestions, and I mean them in the kindest possible way:
1. Hush. Listen. Learn.
2. Spell-checking will keep you from embarrassment.
3. Don't dictate behavior. Let your own serve as an example.
Welcome to FR.

LOL, Ivan, are you sure you don't live in the US? You have such an acute understanding of what is going on here. That's because it's very similar to what goes on here.
BTW, I see the Cleveland Indians considered this past season to be a rebuilding season. My Minnesota Twins did ok, even though they will not make it to the series.
Yes, the Indians have traditionally survived by injecting new, younger talent (the unspoken subtext is that too many times that talent has burned out rather quickly like Herb Score and Sudden Sam McDowell) - it's time for another cycle. But I am hopeful they will get back to full contention, and end the drought that began in 1948.
Regards, Ivan

That which is found in the middle of the road is generally referred to as "Road Kill."
I once strove to be Moderate and Independent. I thought that it proved me to be a person who looked at both sides of an issue. What it really meant was that I was too much of a wuss to take a stand and stick by it.
I know what is right. I know what is wrong.
Government is not the solution. Compromise is not the solution.
Staying in the fight, conceeding no ground, accepting incrementalism in one direction only, is the way to restore the freedom and liberty granted to us by our creator and recognized by our founding fathers.
Stay in the middle of the road, but I'll be scraping you up with a shovel...

does everyone hate meNah. Hang around a few years and grow thicker skin. ;-)

why do we call democrats 'rats I think you are calling the rats names when referring to them as democrats. (just kidding.)
Why can't we lighten up? Isn't it the democrats that are so hyper-sensitive (except when it comes to conservatives)? It actually is a form of censorship.
Also, I bet if Jim listens to Michael Savage, he'd freak with all his names for people: Jesse "hi"jackson, Larry (King)Seltzer, Susan (Sarandan) Saranwrap, Barbara "baby killer" Boxer ...
To: Crusher138
Crusher,
You missed my point. I'm not saying be middle of the road. I'm saying be principled, but be civilized in arguing your cause. I hope you grok the difference.

To: JimThayner
The same reason we call Dashole - Dashole. Because my mother told me to always tell the truth. I wonder if Hitlery's mother ever told her that. Did Gorey really invent the internet?
